I started writing December during the December of 2019. Through many modifications, it's gotten to where it is today. It's written in a rough pop song form, but showcases a contemporary classical style as well as many keyboard techniques, such as hand-to-hand rolls, ripple rolls, a short rudimental section, and more.

My favorite part? The chorus. Chorus 1 starts at 1:38.

The Language Exchange: Phonological Variant Example

Cycles of coprime lengths 3, 4, 5, and 19 weave through the percussion: the dispassionate nature of time.

Long, sustained passages arise in the winds: time given breath, matter given meaning.

Century for Wind Ensemble

I wrote Portraits in the spring of my junior year of high school, a time when I often felt all alone. A somber 7-bar progression (repeated in a different context at m. 21) opens the work, followed by a slow exposition that develops into a rhythmic, dance-like Presto section. The majority of the work tilts between the D (minor in effect) and G (dominant in effect) tonal centers. Portraits is most suitable for intermediate- to intermediate-advanced clarinet students with facility in their chalumeau-clarion registers. It is dedicated to Will MacLeod.
