Pixels is a song that was created from an accident. The main arpeggio melody was originally supposed to be the bass of another song when I accidently copied it to another instrument. I liked this sound so much that I built a song around it. The song starts off heavily inspired by the tron legacy soundtrack and my general love for video game music, it then turns into a heavily inspired justice song IMO. As I was thinking about the name, I realized this song sounded like a sort of progression through the history of complexity video game music has gotten, sort of. It's not supposed to be so don't take that last statement 100%

This track is a sort of experiment that turned out so well, that I decided to post something. I wish I could've posted something quicker, but I am still transitioning over to FL Studio (aka money -_-).

I wrote this track on a plane going to a conference in New York, and I thought it would've been an interesting idea to write a song while in the air and maybe it would capture some of the emotions I was feeling as I was flying. Turns out it actually did, and this piece from the beginning sounded like something of wonder. I decided then to experiment and turn the piece into something darker, which turned out pretty well. This is also the first time I used a sample in this piece. All in all, I wrote the entire thing on my flight in about a couple of hours.

Thank you so much guys for being patient! As always school, money, and life got in the way. At a certain point, I stopped making stuff altogether because my self-doubt was so strong. Kinda ironic thinking this is the first thing I put out after all that.

Anyway, this was a project I did for my DAW class this term in college. I've always been a huge fan of Assemblage 23, I love his futurepop/industrial sound and his lyrics are some of the most beautiful things ever written, and this song is no exception. Whenever I approach remixes, I want to shape it into my own sound and add something to it that I think would improve it. I almost didn't do this song because I really like it the way it is. I am glad I was able to bring out the beauty in the lyrics. I used only 3 audio files from the stems Assemblage 23 released (vocals, drums, crunchy mallet), everything else I built from the ground up

I want to say a huge thank you to Assemblage 23 for releasing these stems and making some of the best music. Also huge thank you to Don Latarski for helping me mix this and making it sound its best.

This was a labour of love and I hope you enjoy it, I put my whole heart and soul into it. To the point of delaying the release a week to polish up the track to the best of my ability.

Get Out (Alex Niemeyer Remix) by CHVRCHES

This piece was first premiered at the FMO concert at the UNiversity of Oregon May 12th, 2018. It was a composition I made during my time in the electronic composition course. Below is the full program notes for this piece:

This piece was inspired by the soundscape pieces created by fellow classmates at previous FMO concerts and my fascination with urban and futuristics soundscapes from various fictional media. I used mostly all my own samples recorded from various mechanical sources like elevators and washing machines, and human activity such as a crowded restaurant or at the gym. The rest of the sounds, I believe only one of them (the train announcement), was all taken from freesound.org

I invite you to make your own interpretation of the piece, for those wondering how I interpreted this as I composed this, here is how I envisioned it:

I picture this nameless person at the train station as the train stops by. People are getting off the train as they make their way to the elevator, then outside. You hear flying machines passing over you as you enter the city. As you arrive, you hear some murmurs and a speech advocating for an uprising in a city in disarray. After the speech time moves faster, reaching the point where everything is gone but the wind. You might be able to hear remnants of a distant past in the wind.

MYSTified 
for fixed digital audio media

MYSTified was inspired by the soundtrack to the popular Puzzle/Adventure video games "Myst" and "Riven", created by Robyn Miller [Music, Game Design] and Rand Miller [Game Design]. The design of this game and its soundtrack plays with familiar settings and the alien, or the unknown. In Myst and Riven you explore islands with familiar surroundings, like woods and mountains, except its features are exaggerated and unlike anything you would encounter in real world nature.  The soundtrack to the game features some music with distinct melodies and rhythm lines, some music with layered drones and experimental sounds, and others feature both of these aspects. This piece begins and ends with these unfamiliar aspects, as if you are linking yourself into this piece, it moves towards the familiar with a distinct melody and rhythmic line which slowly fades away as if you are linking out of the piece. Both the familiar and unfamiliar sounds are re-imagined and synthesized.

This track was completed for the Audio Recording Techniques class I attended as part of Winter Term at University of Oregon. I had to step out of my comfort zone not only by recording real instruments and working/collaborating with other musicians who are arguably more talented than I am, but by also literally putting my voice out there. In the end I am glad I have had this experience and it was arguably one of the best experiences that I had ever had making music. The recording process was also different from what I was used to; being confined by just a computer and a keyboard. I had to think about how the different equipment and techniques I used affected the color of the sound.  Since I was mostly working with real instruments (except for the synths), I decided to take advantage of it and make a song inspired by the likes of Daft Punk’s RAM, Breakbot, Chromeo, etc.

I want to say a HUGE thank you to my good friends Lara, Trent, Austin, and Andrew. Without your help and support, this track would not exist. I am very grateful and fortunate to have met/worked/laughed with you <3
