Khan Variations

"Apparitions II" (2005/19)is an instrumental version of a work originally commissioned by Sligo County Council (Ireland) under the Per Cent for Art scheme, 'Pieces of Elsewhere' (2005), a series of settings for soprano and percussion quartet of 17 Japanese haiku in English translation by Sam Hamill. I subsequently made an instrumental version for viola (or alto flute, or any other similarly-ranged instrument) and percussion quartet, and more recently reworked that for just one percussionist and viola. The performers on this recording are violist Nathan Sherman and percussionist Alex Petcu.
