ABOUT THE MIX:
A musical response to his latest menswear collection Red Clay inspired by Freddie Hubbard’s album of the same name

Red Clay is earthy, rich, deep and organic, in its actual form or as a metaphor
.
Drawing inspiration from Hubbard and that 70s era, Nicholas’ AW18 presentation combined four players who embody that same level of richness. On many occasions, the strokes, notes and riffs of Yussef Dayes, Alfa Mist, Shabaka Hutchings and Mansur Brown have made me cry. To me, they have an incredibly special ability to connect, channel and transcend emotions that touch the most inner of our beings. The ability to move, uplift or simply hold us is to me, the greatest gift of all; the highest currency.
I hope this mix captures that very special energy while also paying homage to those that have provided us with the foundation to build on; intertwining the past and the present like having musicians from distant eras playing in one room.
Thank you to all the makers and creators who inspire me every single day and to all the cats from the 70s for creating some of the best music of all time
