For many years we travelled to this magical thing called Burning Man. Looking back to our first year out there, we never realised that this event, simply "a festival" to the outside world, would change us forever. 

The community ethos that you find at Burning Man is best understood by its Ten Principles. And once we left the playa for the first time we would long for radical inclusion, communal effort or the fact that people would leave no trace wherever we'd go. 

Our Gardens journey is born in Amsterdam and raised on the playa. Forever grateful are we to what we have learned and experienced while being out there. This year we finally knew what we would like to give to the playa.

Together with our family we created a Monday Landing Ceremony at Camp Bang Bang. And like our other events we started this day with a powerful meditation.
We created this meditation to allow people to arrive at the event. To take a moment to get to know the people and the energy around us. To disconnect from the outside world and enter this magical world we call home. It was a beautiful moment for anybody on the playa to set intentions for the week and take time to realise where we and who we are.

There is no Gardens without the incredible sounds from our favourite artists. Before you the M I N D B L O W I N G set by P & Christian Voldstad. We worked with both artists separately and never experienced their incredible connection in real person. 

Take a trip down memory lane and wander of to the dusty field of Burning Man. The man burns in 352 days, but who's counting?

Passionate about music since adolescence, this new face of the French electronic scene is initiated by his family to the current new wave before being interested in the electronic wave.
Artists like Alan Braxe, Fred Falke, Mark Knight, Roger Sanchez, Eric Prydz and Armand Van Helden are among the influences of this young Valencia DJ. 
When he is not behind the turntables, he sharpens his insatiable appetite for musical novelties. 
Today, Florian presents electronic sets reflecting his vast and sharp musical universe.

Boum Boum Boum! 25 years of KOMPAKT. When a record label still thrives after a quarter of a century thanks to a focus of what was expected to be a short lived music phenomenon called TECHNO, then it stands to prove two things; that it techno has taken its place amongst serious, multilayered musical genres like rock’n’roll, pop and folk music. And that KOMPAKT has never been only for techno, but KOMPAKT stands as a broad-minded, genre-defying entity that has set out to cross-pollinate all kinds of musical inventions within the realm of electronic music. Through its course, KOMPAKT has sent “Around The World”, all kinds of sub-genres, concept series and crossover adventures based on the non- negotiable 4/4 beat. And back again.

Without a doubt, the 100% kickdrum-free POP AMBIENT series is the most endearing and enduring concept that I have had the pleasure to curate. From the start, I felt there was a strong need to add a certain pop- elegance - ensouled by discourse as much as hedonism - to a sound that was recognized as “Chill Out” music that could be heard in seedy techno club back rooms and forgotten festival areas. Over the years, I like to imagine that POP AMBIENT has crystallized into a highly recognizable trademark sound and a multi-facetted musical universe of its own.

So once again, I had the pleasure to put together this year’s edition by plowing through an ocean of sonic jewelry that had been submitted from all over the world by new and old friends. The task was clear: for this special edition, I must create a homogenous listening experience that would both appeal to our trusting followers, to continue our tradition while integrating new micro facets , variations and influences from neighboring musical universes as possible. Obligatory while being innovative. Conspirative while being cosmopolitan. Albeit the headline “Ambient” might sound a little too humble for a compilation that encompasses aspects of neo classic, atonal music and the most beautiful aural kitsch imaginable, it still helps as a necessary means of orientation in the best possible sense. Same goes for another dear tradition: Veronika Unland’s abstract-floral cover design that keeps on pleasing our sore eyes year after year.

Although each and every POP AMBIENT edition doesn’t shy away from diving into the relevant question of “What is contemporary discourse music” – in the end it all boils down to that elevated moment where all theory dissolves into ambient air, into a higher state of cosmic bliss. POP AMBIENT is sacral music for non-believers.

In my home town of Kaluga there is much space between the buildings, which obstruct neither earth nor sky. Visitors often tell hearted tales of the colour of clouds and of the curious constellations here.

At one point you realize that all words of beauty have already been said, yet the need to express a universe of feelings still remains. At 17, when I discovered electronic music, it seemed to me that I'd finally found that universal language. It's a language which can describe not only the boundless atmosphere of space, but also the feelings that come from looking there, into the mind-numbing depth of the night sky.

Learning the language turned out to be something of a daunting task. Years went by as I tried my hand at different genres, during which I've been able to master computer technology and graduate with a university degree. I found new depth in the knowledge I'd gained there -- chemistry and physics turned into hard techno beats, while astronomy mellowed my tracks and gave them the ebb and flow of melody.

Life in the capital of Russia introduced new shades still to my music. The gyrations of the megapolis, its heartbeat and its salient power-lines all poured into a woven rhythm -- which, as it turns out, already has a name. 

Styles and fashions change, as do we, while the Universe is ageless and infinite. Music is a gift to people, I think -- to let them become closer to the stars. To let them hear the iridescence of the northern lights. To allow them to experience the first spark of a star and it's last breath .
