Trance fans around the world have seen Alex Sonata & TheRio grow into melodic dance music mainstays over the last several years.  Once an international collaborative act, Scotland’s Fraser Shaw and Italy’s Riccardo Derio joined forces to officially become a duo in 2020 after releasing music on labels owned and operated by the likes of Armin van Buuren, Gareth Emery, and more.

Having debuted on Anjunabeats in 2021, the duo quickly garnered support across the spectrum of today’s trance industry, and immediately became staple contributors to the sets of label heads Above & Beyond.  Off the back of performances at Group Therapy Weekender at the Gorge, Anjunabeats’ Miami Music Week pool party, and more recently, on the Anjunabeats Outdoors and After Dark tours, they were invited to compile and mix the latest installment of the Anjunabeats Worldwide series, a mix series that serves as a launchpad for the next big act in the Anjunabeats arena and the wider trance scene.  Carrying the torch passed on by the likes of ilan Bluestone, Jason Ross, Oliver Smith, Genix, and Fatum, Alex Sonata & TheRio delivered a masterclass of a mix in November of 2023.  The guys are now embarking on their landmark Anjunabeats Worldwide tour over the next 18 months, spanning North America, Europe, and beyond.
