Clear Skies

A warped reece bassline, stuttered vocal chops and a hyperactive break are the foundation for this dark, UK Bass inspired late-night roller. Raves All Weekend peppers the break with spoken-word patois to illustrate the theme; cyber-punk meets jungle techno in a clash of ominous melodies and fierce dancefloor energy. Light it up.

For the remix, Dopamine has done what he does best - stripped the instrumental back to the fundamentals, adding a pulsing off-beat bassline, hypnotic bleeps and ramped up the tension. With an old-school flavour and an old-school break, he twists Jungle Punk into a techno/breaks hybrid that doesn't let up and is already setting the dancefloor on fire at Revolver.

Alex Virr rounds out the package with a housier remix using shuffling, tribal drums and garagey keys to create a bouncy floor-filler for earlier sets.

Got My Number is a collaboration between Alex Virr and Melbourne vocalist Emy Zaluzna. A Soca-styled break and morphing reese bass drive Emy's confident and hooky vocal performance resulting in a track with both dancefloor potential and pop sensibilities.

Tigs turns out a more radio-friendly remix, utilising much of the vocal with his own signature two-step beats and bassline which should please UK Garage fans and pop lovers alike.

Matt Goddard aka Dopamine is back on Strontium, this time using his real name. Matt serves up a sophisticated, late-night techno remix - building layers of tension and anticipation with a loop of the vocal.

The “Cool Down” catchcry resembles the call from the skate rink DJ, letting the audience know this is a chance to take a break, catch your breath and prepare for more feistiness. It is not however, the time to take off your skates. The musical journey is just as vibrant as the last bracket. Alternatively, Alex Virr’s Cool Down is sound system cultured. The patois tinge of the vocal inherently represents pulling up the bass with the irony being that everything about this track is heating up. Tuned kicks and open hats, reverb obtained from a quarried basement lined with amyl funes. It’s teeth grinding bass house, the type your neighbors hate at the kick ons. The bassline plays straight, then forces a
growl, akin to solar flares, flaming off the sun and torching your upper dermal layers ( It’s engrossing to think this was written amidst the 2020 Australian bushfires.) Cool Down , while written amongst angst, is the portal to forward your consciousness amongst the turmoil. To survive is a hope to rave another day.

Cool Down is backed by a remix from award winning Sydney producer Dopamine who tunes it up for ambassadors of rave, a soundtrack to accompany brain freezing light shows. Dopamine has added
singing rides that could call on punters to gather en masse then forget they entered the dancefloor with 3 compadres. The bass squelches are tightened to emphasize this remix is a journey in techno. Techno has no need to drop the kick out. Bass drops can be performed at the other end of the dance music process, leave that for the techno DJs. Consolidate this with less emphasis on tuned kicks, straighter in the high end, and the bass rolling with tech-house syncopation. You can expect the Cool
Down remix from Dopamine to be a call to the dance floor from the bar as the heavyweight bassline drops.

Cool Down

Lockdown was written in March 2020, before the Covid-19 pandemic had really blown out of control in most of the world, and right before Australia went into their first physical lockdown. It was a time of great anxiety and paranoia about this new and invisible disease and I wanted to capture those emotions, the tension and darkness, and put it into my music. Taut, glitchy minor keys and rumbling sub bass emerge among a whirlwind acid synth, powered by syncopated tech drums and ferocious rhythms. A maelstrom of energy best consumed in the dark.

On the remix is Sydney bassline don Mincy, who's Extra Spicy compilations have put native Australian producers on the map with diverse sonic palettes and dancefloor focus. Mincy has flipped the script on Lockdown with an uptempo UK-Funky programmed rhythm section, a huge pitch-warped sub and relentless energy. Switching up and squirming like a beast in a trap, this slice of late night mayhem is going to cause damage and elation in equal measure.

Raised among dusty, scratched vinyl collections in the stalls of Camden Market, London - my sound is a tribute to the early years of Dance Music and Pirate Radio and everything that got me into music in the 90s. Drawing on influences from early Hardcore, Drum & Bass, Techno and UK Garage - I love percussive, high-energy rhythm sections peppered with soulful, urban soundscapes, dub basslines and soundsystem vibes. Now living in Melbourne, Australia, I work as a full-time graphic designer but you can also find me on the stage DJing at Revolver with a mix of UK garage, grime, bassline and techno or in my little studio collaborating.
