Juli alias JuNi wurde 1986 in Brühl (bei Köln) geboren und wuchs in der Nähe von Bremen auf. 2006 kam sie zum Studieren nach Köln und lebt seitdem hier. 

1. Wie bist du zum Auflegen gekommen? 

Aufzulegen reißt mich schon lange. Eigentlich seitdem ich DJs regelmäßig beim Auflegen beobachtet und zugehört habe. Ich war dann viele Jahre aber auch total happy damit, Musik nur zu hören und für mich zu sammeln. Trotzdem habe ich immer mal wieder nach erschwinglichem Equipment Ausschau gehalten, bis ich Anfang 2019 mein erstes Setup zu Hause stehen hatte. Richtig zum Auflegen gekommen, bin ich dann ein Jahr später während Corona. Durch die Pandemie ergab sich immer mal wieder die Möglichkeit, privat vor ein paar Leuten oder einfach mit meinem Freund zu Hause aufzulegen. Ich habe viel positives Feedback bekommen und 2020 auf einem Open-Air von „Rheintaumeln“ mein erstes Set vor Publikum gespielt. Spätestens da hat es mich richtig gepackt. 

2. Einige deiner Kolleginnen mögen den Begriff „DJane“ nicht, wie stehst du dazu? 

Ich bin bei dem Thema relativ entspannt. Grundsätzlich finde ich es ja richtig, dass man einen bewussteren Umgang mit Sprache schafft, aber einige Diskussionen sind auch wirklich albern. Vielleicht kann man sich friedlich darauf einigen, dass der Begriff „DJ“ aus dem Englischen übernommen ist und somit alle Geschlechter umfasst. Dann muss sich niemand ausgeschlossen fühlen und wir brauchen auch keine DJin (was einfach furchtbar klingt). Wenn jemand den Begriff „Djane“ verwendet, kann ich dies durchaus auch als nett gemeinten (schlechten) Versuch zu gendern und nicht als Diskriminierung verstehen. Ich persönlich fühle mich da überhaupt nicht angegriffen. Ich hoffe einfach, dass das Geschlecht hinter den Decks irgendwann keine Rolle mehr spielt, sondern allein die Musik im Vordergrund steht. 

3. Was macht die „BergWacht“ zu dem, was sie seit mittlerweile über 14 Jahren ist? 

Die Partys waren schon immer ein Ort, an dem man mit offenen Menschen total ausgelassen feiern konnte. Übertriebener Selbstdarstellung wird kaum Aufmerksamkeit entgegengebracht. Es kommt auf ein schönes gemeinsames Feiererlebnis an. Dieser Vibe macht „BergWacht“ seit meiner ersten Party 2011 für mich aus. Mit den Jahren ist die Crew wie eine Familie geworden und wir haben immer unfassbar viel Spaß. Musikalisch steht die Party schon immer für melodischen Techno in Köln, aber der Sound hat sich auf jeden Fall entwickelt. Es geht oft etwas mehr nach vorn, was mir persönlich gut gefällt. 

4. Was war dein bisheriges musikalisches Highlight, sowohl als Raverin, als auch als Künstlerin? 

Definitiv Township Rebellion 2019 auf der „Fusion“. Hinter den Decks sind die „ersten Male“ eigentlich immer etwas Besonderes. Ich erinnere mich hier sofort an das bereits erwähnte „Rheintaumeln“-Open-Air 2020, wo ich das erste Mal vor Publikum aufgelegt habe. Aber auch die ersten Gigs Ende 2022 als neue „BergWacht“-Resident im Artheater werde ich sicher nicht so schnell vergessen.

MINI INTERVIEW:

What was your most significant club / festival moment?

In the last few years, we have experienced many incredibly beautiful moments through DJing. One of the most significant ones was at a club called Mensch Meier last year.
Even before we started making music, Mensch Meier was our favourite club. When we suddenly found ourselves behind the decks a little dream came true for us.

Solo or b2b? And why?

Of course c2c!
All the music-making, traveling, growing and everything that goes with it is simply much more fun when there are two of us.

What can we expect from you in the near future?

We're excited to play the first time b2b2b with our buddy k3m4 at Kitkat Club on 10.06 and on 24.06. we will be back at our beloved Mensch Meier with our event series fhainste Bambule. We are also looking forward to our festival summer with Bastion der Spinnerei, Hain & Zunder, Funkloch, Castlebeats & Kepotopia Festival.
