The Sentinel | Prologue

“The world as we know it, is gone. A terrible force known as The Scourge has ripped apart the land, boiled the seas and broken even gravity itself. A band of survivors has taken refuge in a mountaintop fortress, the lone safe-haven from the chaotic world below. They constructed a mythic warrior, a stone giant known as The Sentinel, with the power to restore the world so that it can once again sustain life. Centuries pass as the people wait for their hero to return and liberate them, but a boy named Ori refuses to wait any longer. He is willing to do the forbidden and escape the fortress itself to seek the warrior and fulfill the Legend of Humanity’s deliverance. Little does he know The Sentinel is waiting just outside the fortress walls, and the journey the two must embark on is nothing either could imagine.” -​Adam Floeck, director

Dinner Four Two

To me, one of the most fascinating aspects of the human mind is the ability to dream. As a kid, I was quite imaginative and my mind was always open to unlimited possibilities for creativity. "Visions and Fantasy" is written in reflection of those memories, or “visions” from my childhood.  I wanted to create the essence of imagination, and the state of dreaming, whether it takes place during the night or during the day. 

Commissioned by the Sheldon Arts Foundation and performed by Graham Woodland (violin) and Gyumi Rha (piano).

Visions and Fantasy

"The OceanMaker" is a animated short film written and directed by Lucas Martell. The film is based in a post-apocalyptic world where all bodies of water have disappeared and the only source of water has to come from the clouds. In this scene, Katrina, who is a pilot and the protagonist of the story, is wounded after her fight to protect the Earth from sky pirates who are contaminating the air. Katrina realizes that the only way to save the world from drought is to sacrifice her life.

This cue was written during my attendance at the 2018 Palomar Film Music Workshop. I had the honor of working with composers Larry Groupe, Roger Neil and Steve Thomas as well as many talented and extraordinary composers during my time there. The score was recorded at Studio West in San Diego, California by Los Angeles studio musicians and members of the San Diego Symphony and Pacific Symphony.

The OceanMaker- Her Sacrifice/ Epilogue

One of favorite things to do is to travel. There is just so much excitement about taking a trip to place that you have never been before. "The Road Ahead" was inspired by road trips that I have taken throughout my life. The driving, repetitive pulse represents one looking out the window of a car, as cities and landscapes pass by. Each theme flows into the next, just how the scenery will change over time. With every expedition, there is some uncertainty what lies ahead, or what there is to be encountered.

The composition was performed by John Wardlaw (baritone saxophone) and Josiah Sprankle (piano) at the University of Missouri- Kansas City.

The score was performed live with the film and the foley at my        senior undergraduate composition recital at the University of Missouri- Kansas City. The piece was conducted by Drew Crane and performed by Baltazar Diaz (flute), Danielle Schueller (flute), Samantha Messina (clarinet), Brandon Crawford (clarinet), Ramone Smith (horn), Xavier Munoz (horn), Adam Vanpelt (trombone) Logan Jungman (tuba), Zach Keyser (percussion), Josiah Sprankle (piano), Chung-Wen Lee (viola), Ching-Wen Lai(viola), Adee Dancy (cello), and Spencer Eiserman (cello).
