Forever evolving and maturing, Hermanez has consistently moved with the times and reflected the dancefloor’s souls with his prolific and heavily-supported output. Whether his groove magic has been found on the likes of Suara, Snatch! or All Day I Dream, he’s always delivered something special that fits the moment, respects the label and dazzles the dancefloor.

This Bedrock debut is certainly no exception. Following on from the beautiful and beguiling sounds of his recent ‘Remedio’ release on All Day I Dream, ‘Deeper Roots’ once again digs deep into Hermanez’s influences and inspirations as he lays down some of the most hypnotizing pieces he’s conjured so far.   

Each cut weaves a majestic web; ‘Abel’ is a sonic dream, gently ebbing and flowing with an almost Balearic charm. Elsewhere ‘Dust Town’ takes us on a solemn trip out into the desert with big mournful pads and dark, twisted bass echoes,  ‘Lockstep’ sways and seduces with a sweet Latin swing and layers of hip-slinking percussion while ‘Rock Bottom’ brings the EP to a wonderfully emotional conclusion. 

Unhurried and steeped in poignant soul, there’s a subtle vibe of DJ Gregory’s classic Faya Combo in the mix but with big swooping textures like you might have found on Border Community many moons ago. 

Serious fusion but deeply understated; it’s the perfect way for Hermanez to bid us adieu as we wait patiently for more evolutions from the super-consistent Belgian talent.

The 20th release on Michael A’s Genesis Music features a brand new collaborative project from Jelly For The Babies and Mou.
Jelly For The Babies and Mou

Hailing from Serbia and Egypt respectively both Jelly and Mou have been extremely successful in their solo careers and the prospect of them collaborating is quite exciting. They’ve cooked up a beauty for the first Genesis Music release of the year which also includes a remix from label boss Michael A.



The release begins with the original and it’s an interesting fusion of sounds. Jelly’s pendant for all things deep and groovy has certainly worked wonderfully with Mou’s atmospheric take on progressive house. Beginning with a hypno vocal loop, dubby beats and a cavernous wall of bass you know right away you’re in for a smooth late night affair. As the piece builds soft rhythmic tones and ethereal vocal gates create a wonderful melodic haze. A more distinct lead then develops and pushes the emotive qualities up several notches, ultimately leading to a magical break. It’s a gorgeous moment and one which plays out with just a touch of tension before getting washed away in favour of the warm fluid groove. Wonderful work from a producer pairing I hope we see more of in the future.

Mou has also provided his own interpretation of the mix which carries the same warmth and smooth hypnotic qualities. Great drum elements make for some catchy hooks, while the melodic reconstruction begins to build and flows through a cascade of modulation and emotion. The break makes the most of those blissful vibes laying down a full showcase of the lead line before a quick drop and rush of beats and melodies takes you home.



The second and final interpretation of ‘Aragvi’ is provided by Michael A who is making his 12th appearance on his home imprint. The Belarus based producer was one of many artists who rose to prominence in 2015. Michael’s year was filled with support from Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J along with the rise of Genesis Music which launched just 7 months ago. Now one of the leaders in the progressive new school Michael delivers a standout remix to close the release off. Taking a darker, more arcane approach the vibe still comes off quite hopeful but with a mysterious undertone. The vocal elements are gut wrenching, almost like impassioned cries and over that menacing groove it certainly makes for a killer big room tune. Awesome remix from Michael A and a great start to 2016 for Genesis Music. Don’t miss it.

A Latvian artist with global renown, Ivas Tilix has seen his reputation grow steadily through his Subconscious Tales soubriquet and a unique brand of music that captures "something truly dark, yet melodic, deep, yet powerful". Able to confront his craft from a very personal and constructive angle, Tilix has been able to produce a breadth of music that sees him bare his musical soul with extraordinary and unrivalled effect.

A regular on, Suffused Music, the Subconscious Tales debut on the Lithuanian imprint saw the four-track "Till It Begins" find its mark in August 2014 before May 2015's "Arris" took centre stage. Further work for such behemoths as Balkan Connection, Mistique Music and Rimoshee Traxx have continued to showcase Tilix's work with additional multiple appearances on the best-selling Visceral compilation series.

Making his Particles debut remixing East Café in June 2017, the sublime three-track "Twisted" EP followed the same month. A Proton Music debut saw Subconscious Tales remixing David Calo's "Chronomatic" in December 2017 and it is genuine honour to welcome him back to the label with the twin-track "Magnectares".

The title track is a strong free-flowing work that revels in glorious percussive flair with its rich groove and plethora of ambient and spot effects. Hitting its stride in the second movement, a bouncing bassline adds depth, weight and dancefloor prowess before a driving arpeggio creates a dynamic melodic denouement at the mid-point breakdown. Picking up the rhythmic foundation again in the third movement, bass, percussion and melody combine to striking effect in the second half.

"Arkaya" continues the Subconscious Tales penchant for deep and resonating rhythmic grooves as a contemplative opening then makes way for an effervescent and cadenced bassline. An array of motifs and sumptuous melodic lines are juxtaposed against the rhythmic elements to fine effect, coming fully to the fore at the breakdown. A sustained chord crescendo then leads the track into a deep an inspiring third movement full of imagination, guile and craft.

A very welcome addition to the Proton Music catalogues, Subconscious Tales provides a moment of class with his twin-track "Magnectares".
