This might be the first time I’ve put together a mix that truly captures the depth and sound I’m known for, yet rarely get to share. Living in Chicago, surrounded by so many local curators, has shaped me more than I realized. 

Over the past six years, I’ve explored house, minimal, techno, progressive, and trance independently, and now I’m finding myself blending them in ways I never expected—while still staying true to a sound I love. It’s not easy. It takes time and experience to merge different genres in a cohesive way. I’m not saying I’ve perfected it, in fact I’m nowhere near but I know I’m on the right path. For that, I have to thank Chicago and its diverse music scene. 

I used the Xone 96 because I wanted to just focus on clean mixing. When I use the V10 I catch myself relying on the effects too much for transitions. 

I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as I did mixing it . First of many.

Got called up last minute to close out an event where I was already providing the backline. No set planned—just jumped in and followed the energy from the previous DJ who was playing pretty fast. The crowd was all about house, so I dove into deep, dark, and groovy vibes while still staying true to the sound I love. 

Luckily I had my lighting iPhone cable and used the DJM REC app to record from the V10.

Every set is a conversation between me, the room, and the music.

When I step behind the decks, there’s a lot running through my mind when deciding what to play.

What kind of event is this? A day party? A dark, sweaty basement?
Who’s on the dance floor? Progressive heads? Trance lovers? House purists? A mix of everything?
Am I opening for another artist? What’s their sound? How can I set the stage in a way that supports their night?
Is this the right moment to drop a track so the crowd gets the best possible first-time experience? If not, I wait. Some of my favorite tracks still haven’t had their moment—and that’s okay. Patience is everything.

These are just a few of the things I’m constantly weighing on me while I play. When I’m introducing progressive house to new listeners, I take extra care with my selections—because first impressions matter. I want people to leave not just having enjoyed the set, but excited enough to dive deeper into the genre on their own.

If you’ve seen me play, you’ve probably noticed how locked in I get behind the decks. I'm always very focused. That’s why. I don’t plan my sets ahead of time. I build them in the moment—shaped by the DJ before me, the energy of the room, and the type of event.

This month, I wanted to give you something different. I wanted to show you some of the things that get me moving. I imagined myself on the dance floor and simply played what I’d want to hear. No prep, beyond the first two tracks. Luckily, I recorded it.

In his early teens, exposed to the thumping beat of house music while living abroad in Georgia, Alfred quickly embraced the likes of Martin Roth, Benny Benassi, and classic David Guetta. He soon after discovered the world of trance and has been heavily influenced by its driving tempo and beautiful melodies. Finding impact in the sounds of Paul Van Dyk, Aly and Fila, Markus Schulz, and Paul Oakenfold.

Today while still embracing his trance roots he delves deep into his more progressive side with his imprint Chicago Progressive House. He is driven by an unwavering passion to transport his listeners on a profound melodic journey.
