Alias Shay, resident at Sahra Berlin, is a queer Tunisian DJ, producer, and community organizer. For Alias Shay, music is more than a form of expression—it’s activism. Carrying the echoes of ancestral guidance and cultural resilience, their work is deeply rooted in creating spaces for community, igniting belonging, joy and connection on the dancefloor.

The sets of Alias Shay resist categorization, refusing to conform to any one genre.They are a dynamic fusion of sounds, weaving together the emotions of Raï, the trance of Tunisian Mezwed, the energy of breaks and bass, the joy and nostalgia of Arabic pop, and even the experimental edge of deconstructed sounds. Every performance invites the audience to experience a multi-layered sonic narrative,inspired by rhythms and stories passed down through generations, yet always forward-thinking in its approach.

This is a recording of the all-night-long Raï floor I played at Sahra ۱۸ in Berlin. Honestly, it kind of healed me a little.

Just a headsup: I got a bit too excited at times and I clipped the recording but in my defense, if Raï isn’t redlining, I don’t want it.

THF Radio hosted Queens Against Borders (QAB) on the station for the first time. In previous years QAB has established artists, platforming trans and queer refugees/immigrants that has brought a strong voice of visibility Center Stage.

For the first show, QAB invited Tunisian DJ, producer, and community organizer, @alias-shay. 

This show was broadcast as part of Refugee Week on Air 2025, an international radio programme dedicated to amplifying the voices and stories of musicians, activists, and creators from refugee backgrounds around the world. Through the medium of radio and audio, our collective power has the potential to inspire hope, build bridges across borders, and shape our shared futures. @refugeeweekuk
