IRISE INTERNATIONAL works to support the education and empowerment of marginalised women and girls in East Africa through developing a replicable and sustainable solution to Menstrual Hygiene Management (MHM). MHM is an issue identified by disadvantaged women and girls as a driver of gender inequality and disempowerment through an insidious impact on their ability to engage in education and make good decisions about their reproductive health. Irise aim to be a driver of change through enabling women to achieve more and by starting conversations that challenge traditional gender roles. They aim for a world where no girl is held back by her period and a society that enables all girls to reach their full potential.

Alief's Mix For Friends Of Irise

This is the first part of my set warming up for San Proper at Pretty Pretty Good last Saturday, recorded straight from the E&S DJR400, so no ambient noise to disguise the imperfections. Unfortunately, due to the way I hooked the recorder up, the recording after this excerpt distorted to the point of being unlistenable. However, the warmth the mixer gave to the music beforehand was too good not to share.

I often find myself flustered at anything and everything when I’m playing such as; skipping records, sloppy mixing, monitors not working or trying to figure out how to use the mixer! However, that usual sense of fluster didn’t happen on Saturday night (probably due to all the oysters and sake consumed beforehand)!

So here it is - 85 minutes of music in all it’s warm, sloppy and imperfect glory… SICK x
