After a first volume released in September 2020 on Hard Fist, Argentinian Balam comes with “Chants of Pachamama (Part. 2)”, including a remix by Matias Aguayo.

This time Balam focuses on the experience around the ritual of magic plants that is practiced in the deep South-American rainforest. By mixing modular synth, stromping basslines, haunting vocals and real played percussions produced in his studio “Submarea” in Buenos Aires, he recreates a psychedelic trip from beginning to end.

There were some unconfirmed, but very plausible reports of sightings of a crashed U.F.O. in or around Bogota, Colombia. And indeed, all the orchestrated government cover-ups in the world couldn’t make us believe that there isn’t a duo of weirdly Scandinavian-looking aliens strolling around that area. But, alas, they seem to be of the friendly, if trippy, kind.
What they seem to be mostly interested in, is handing out 808 space cakes and inquiring about nearby raves, absorbing influences of the indigenous culture on their path. First-hand reporters claim to having gone on extensive ayahuasca trips with them and binging hard on empanadas afterwards. So yeah, seems like nothing to worry here, they come in peace and bring the trippy shit!

The album ‘Songs From The End Of The World’ by Norwegian artists Ost & Kjex was released in June 2022 via their Snick Snack Music. The enigmatic electronic music duo have taken the stage in iconic spaces across the world such as Rex Club, Panorama Bar, Fuse, Fabric, Sonar & more. They now recruit a star-studded cast who frequent the same institutions to remix three of the tracks featured on the LP, calling in Chloé, The Maghreban and Thomas Melchior for a versatile & fun EP. Chloé kicks off the release with a retro remix of ‘The Gallery’, its resonant bassline cruising alongside tantalising vocals and an infectious groove. The Maghreban then flips ‘Dickies Pix’ into an eerie, high-energy club track filled to the brim with spectral percussion, arpeggiating keys and growling acid bass. Lastly, Thomas Melchior re-imagines ‘Mountain Girl’, complete with a slow-building rhythm, hypnotising vocals and dubby fx hits, turning the track into a trippy chugger perfect to warm up the crowd or wind down the party. Home for artists of the likes of, just to name a few, In Flagranti, Eliezer, Curses, Roe Deers (SXDNS138), Claap!, and Golden Bug, one of the label bosses by the way, the Paris-based outlet La Belle Records wide opens its doors once again for the Spanish virtuoso Carlos Calderón aka Azaria. After his well-received appearance on the third installment of the VA series “One Night Stands”, Carlos comes back with his very first EP on the acclaimed French imprint. For the occasion, he partnered with the rising & shining Venezuelan producer, singer, songwriter, composer, and DJ Andrea Lacoste. “Hexagrama”, the result, is an eclectically delicious five-track journey through the many an influence of the duet – and yeah: all originals!

Named after the cultural expression Jayeechi (a sometimes-guttural singing that seems like a groan, a lament) of the Wayúu ethnic group of the Guajira Peninsula in the northernmost part of Colombia and northwest Venezuela, the track premiered here brings ancestry and tradition to the dance floor through upbeat percussive elements, emotional synth leads, and stunning vocals sung on Wayuunaiki. Magnificent!

Λένα Πλάτωνος (Lena Platonos) is a Greek musician, pianist and music composer. Her debut solo album, ‘Μάσκες Ηλίου’ (‘Sun Masks’) was produced in 1984 and reissued by Dark Entries in 2016. The album featured experiments with different sounds and a new batch of electronic equipment, such as the Roland TR 808 drum machine and Yamaha C60 synthesizer. Lena narrates each song in deadpan fashion, skillfully reciting her surreal Greek poetry. Her lyrics deal with the futility of love, the gap of human relationships, consumerist alienation in the bourgeois lifestyle of the 1980s.

We’ve recruited four of our favorite contemporary producers to remix their favorite tracks from ‘Sun Masks’. First up is “Lego” remixed by triple scorpio supernova Avalon Emerson, who is based in Berlin. Her remix morphs the track into a solid dancefloor twister. Next is “Lego” remixed by Lena Willikens, Cologne based DJ and resident at Salon Des Amateurs in Düsseldorf. She provides a deep and psychedelic journey through the darker shadows of the early night or morning. On the B-side is New Yorker and Firehouse Recordings boss Kim Ann Foxman remixing “Hoping By Shopping”. She transforms the spacey robotic vocoder track into a dynamic deep house workout, tough and dreamy all at once. Closing out the EP is a remix of “Wrong Love” by Berlin via Bucharest producer Borusiade aka Miruna Boruzescu. Enhancing the original melancholic piano ballad to a cosmic processional with poignant bass lines that build and recess like the ocean tides. 

All songs have been mastered for vinyl by George Horn at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley. The jacket is a reinterpretation of the original ‘Sun Masks’ cover, isolating the photograph of Lena wearing sunglasses designed by Eloise Leigh. Each copy includes a two-sided postcard with a manipulated film still from one of Lena’s music videos.

The night air was warm and sticky, she breathed deeply as a light breeze washed over her face. Walking the dusty winding streets, dulcet sounds echoed all around; beautiful intricate melodies that transported her to a different time and place. She was far away from home but she had no intention of returning anytime soon. Things were much more interesting here, you never knew what strange delights would greet you around each corner. 

Berlin-based producer Cosmo Vitelli presents the sixth release on Edit Service, the rework driven sub-label of his I'm A Cliche imprint. Indebted to breathing new life into forgotten tracks, the label has seen the likes of Rouge Mécanique, Red Axes and Ólta Karawane deliver their own fresh interpretations of everything from new wave and synth-pop to house, EBM and electro. Next up are Multi Culti and Edits du Plasir alumni Youkounkoun - a duo made up of Get A Room's Jeff Lasson and Gaëtan Rossi - who are no strangers to edit duties. For their mini-LP they explore kraut, post-punk and industrial, rearranging and transforming seven tracks that have never previously been edited.

We are happy to announce the debut EP Portuguese-Italian Vhyce. After his track „Back To Where I Never Was“ on a well received Lost Tapes Vol. 4, he is no stranger to the AEON camp anymore. Known from his releases on Catz N’ Dogz „Pets Recordings“, the young producer delivers a stunning 4 track EP with the title „These Words“.

Vhyce has a very characteristic sound design, which makes his simple and almost minimalistic, but catchy tunes so special; Though always trying to add something new to his repertoire. Like on the title track „These Words“ it was one of the first few attempts for him to sing some vocals on his own instrumentals. „While not being good at singing, I think it really set you free to be able to express your ideas yourself without relying on someone else understanding of your vision,“ he claims.

The track is built around an arpeggiated bass line oscillating between two sequences thats progressively build tension without being too obvious. The lyrics „These words have no meaning“ fell mysterious and open to interpretation. 
 
On the remix duty there’s no one less but „Chicken Lips“ legend Andrew, better known as The Emperor Machine. He stripped back the original to a more funky & grooving rework.  “The plan was to create something that keeps the same emotion as the original mix but still feels different enough without changing direction too much & I think I managed to achieve that”, Andrew says. And yes, what a musical masterpiece he delivered!

„Strive for Ego“ is an attempt to fuse „Can“ & „Neu!“ Krautrock influences into a club track“, says Vicente. Constantly driving forward, with perfect temper and timing to rise tension and built up energy Track title refers to the lyrics... „I’m nobody“.

„Old You“ has a more traditional Italo Disco feel. The „happy“ sounding bass line is counterbalanced with rough and psychedelic analog leads, reminding of traveling through time and space in a 80‘s Sci-Fi movie. The vocoded lyrics shall „refer to an hate-love relationship with your old you....Maybe because it „holds you“, Vhyce describes.
