We at Vāsuki Sound kick off our mix series with an hour-long journey through world music, breaks and bass, courtesy of our good pal Alien Izz. She's immensely talented and has already made a big name for herself in the blossoming electronic scene of Liverpool, where she's a resident at the very excellent Melodic Distraction station as well as a regular at underground bastions Kitchen Street and Meraki to name a few. She will go places. Mark our words....

You walk up the winding path to Agra fort and there, as if by magic, you hear from the rocks a faint trance-like beat. It’s not uncanny for the spirits to start dancing at this time.. The sun is setting after all. As you reach the top, the sound gets louder and louder and now, you realise, you must be in a dream. What you knew as the long-uninhibited fort spawns open into a dancefloor. The courtyard is full of light, and through a haze you see a plethora of dancing saris, then an inlay of boys and girls in leather studded waistcoats and collars. Is this Berghain? You ask. No, it’s Vāsuki.

The intensity climbs and falls, rhythms spiral and collapse and, through the sludge, and the warps, and the sex, and the breaks creating tiny cracks in the floor, you find yourself absorbed into the energy coursing through room like a strong river current. Then, with a squint, you can almost make out the purple antennas of Alien Izz seeping out of the smoke behind the DJ booth at the far end of the room.

The night ends with morning. You walk down the hill from the fort and the walls are lit with lanterns omitting a warm Autumnal glow. Soaking in the ambience, the fierce drums muffle into the dew, and you awake with a dazed yawn. On your mind the sweet and spicy taste of breakfast chai tea.

Side Control Funky Beats 2014

A DJ and producer who defines herself by sound over genre, Alien Izz’s sets explore an eclectic mix of UK underground sounds from acid, breaks, trance and electro to the more leftfield and wonky fringes of techno, bass and beyond. She’s recently supported the likes of X Club, Nite Fleit, Emerald, Dr Banana and Hessle Audio’s Pangaea and appeared on festival lineups for Gottwood and Outlook Origins. 

This year, in addition to joining the Sisu Crew roster, Alien Izz is set to return to Gottwood with Rum Riddimz Run and makes her debut at Hideout Festival, Croatia, whilst her debut EP is set for release later this summer.

Resident of Warsaw’s Jasna 1 and driving force behind the legendary Move Mózg series, Ola Teks has been shaping Poland’s electronic scene with sets that flow between deep techno and classic house  - always guided by intuition and emotion. Recognized by platforms like Boiler Room, Arte Concert, and Mixmag, she’s built a reputation for turning every dancefloor into a story.

Her SPND20 mix is both a showcase of her own sound and a tribute to the spirit of the Spandau family, whose energy has accompanied her since the very start. Fittingly, Ola was the first to bring FJAAK & SPANDAU20 abroad, booking us in Poland back in 2011/2012 - a milestone that still means a lot to us today.

Recorded at home in Warsaw, the mix begins with an intimate glow, rises into full club intensity, and lands gently back down. Along the way: spacious textures, tribal grooves, melancholic-yet-uplifting energy, timeless gems like I:Cube’s 11 Novembre, fresh fire from BAUGRUPPE90 and Cult, an unreleased track by Contakt, plus local heat from 2shy of Privet Press.

It’s raw, flowing, and straight from the heart - stitched together with precision, freedom, and deep respect.

Artists in Action return to unleash a huge new album rooted in solidarity, community and free expression. Including tracks from residents of the Calais Jungle, the 59 song album draws on a vast spectrum of styles, sounds and influences including hip hop, jungle, folk, dub and reggae. All proceeds will be used to fund a mission alongside Refugee Community Kitchen to feed refugees in southern European hotspots as winter approaches.
The last albums and benefit parties helped buy the vehicle that will be used this winter, money raised from this release will be used for supplies and logistics.
