Following the release of the Boyhood EP and a remix for electronic duo Optometry on Palette Recordings, Alighted’s next release is notably energized. “Bodies & Minds” is a dynamic and spirited dance track with a rolling bass line that lays the foundation for the groove. The groove is uninhibited by the rest of the music, which surges and swells like smooth waves over high seas. The next track, “Internal Formation,” is a mid-tempo anthem that combines chopped up breaks and experimental sound design over a powerful backbeat resulting in a sound that is both strong and stylish.

Alighted presents the new single, Red Rain Mountain, out on July 26, 2024, via Garden Broom Recordings. The new single features artwork by Burlington-based collage artist Vanessa Compton.

Like the bucking bronco that adorns the cover art, Alighted’s latest single rattles and rolls with more horsepower than a Mustang. The track opens with a rough-riding bass line punctuated with distorted percussion and spliced synthesizers that stumble across the stereo field like a cowboy in a heat wave. As the beat drops, an arsenal of industrial drums burst into the picture, vying for your attention while the lead melody steers you further down the dusty trail. You need not look for reprieve during the build in the middle of the track—in fact, the energy only goes up from there. The beat comes back, heavy as ever, like high noon in a Western. Press play and hold on tight.

Red Rain Mountain

McLean Macionis, aka Alighted, is a forward-thinking composer and producer whose solo and collaborative works live at the intersection of music, engineering, and the human experience. A recent transplant to the northeast, Macionis previously lived in California where he worked as a composer for film and television. He has also worked as a sound designer and performance artist.


Macionis graduated with a Master of Fine Arts degree in Music Technology from California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) where he later taught courses in interface design and mechatronic sound art. He is the author of two published papers in the Proceedings of the International Conference on New Interfaces for Musical Expression, both of which describe original research in the field of music technology. Macionis currently releases music under the moniker Alighted and as one half of the electronic music duo NMND, and operates the record label Garden Broom Recordings. He is a Professor of the Practice at Middlebury College in Vermont.
