"Boda de muertos" was one of the most beautiful events I've ever had the honor of playing. Translated as "Wedding of the Dead," this gathering was truly a marriage between humans of all parts of the world, as we joined together in Puebla, Mexico in celebration of Dia de los Muertos. In maintaining with the theme, I attempted to marry sounds that were occasionally creepy and subtly haunting with ones which paid homage to the local landscape of Mexico and were naturally more fun. So if you are here to relive a bit of the magic that was "Boda de Muertos", I hope this journey satisfies your craving. And if you're hearing it for the first time, I hope you enjoy listening to it as much as I enjoyed playing it. A massive thank you Debs, Nikita, Jb and everyone who helped produce this event, to Muisca, Jenia Tarsol, Nico Stojan, Rovertzon, Lato, and Lovecraft for keeping us dancing all weekend, to every artist whose music was played, and to everyone who danced-- this event would be nothing without you! 🖤

It was a cold NYC night, but that didn't stop us from heating up the basement of gospel. I had the honor of opening for the immensely talented (and not to mention absolutely lovely) @s_paniol, but something I noticed which was quite different about this headlining act is that he arrived on time to hear my whole set. What a truly flattering and appreciated gesture when an artist that you so respect and revere comes early to show you the same respect. before this night, I knew he was an incredible musician, but after this night, I knew he was an incredible human, and now even a friend. thank you to the auditory craftsman and women who created the songs that I was able to share with the brave souls who bundled up to come out and dance the night away! and thank you to the gospel team of course for inviting me. it was certainly one for the books. A little backstory about this set... When I first got booked to play Tale of Iele I was beyond honored. I got right to work researching the area of Transylvania, the specific medieval citadel I'd be playing in, and of course the myth of the Iele, in order to truly grasp a feel for and establish the sound of which I wanted to embody. I wanted it to be sexy and dark, a little creepy, but still fun and danceable, while remaining true to my world music style, and as always, I wanted to tell a story. So I started drafting what would be v 1 (of perhaps 1000) of the poem heard at 3 points throughout the set. I was lucky enough to recruit the help of talented wordsmiths and friends @poetcalledl and @the_real_ja_rite to assist me on my conquest. Truly I cannot thank these two special humans enough for their talent, creativity, collaboration, and above all, their patience. It was a much more arduous task than I'd imagined, and being a perfectionist, I would catch myself nitpicking the tiniest words or grammatical nuances. But, in the end, I couldn't be more happy about the outcome, so I truly thank you both for making my vision come to fruition.  I hope you all enjoy it!

The Tale:
There once was a land, many moons before our time
Transylvania it is called today
known for the seductive and sublime
 
At its highest mountain peak stood a fabled fortress, 
Citadel Rupea, as it is known
And it is the place that the seed of this sacred story is sown
 
On the 23rd Eve of the month of June,
The fortress watchmen spotted women in white
With flowers in their hair, and hardly a care, 
they danced a greeting to the night
 
He recognized them as the mythical Iele, thought only to be a tale
In which, it is said, to not join in their joyous dance could cause a man’s heart to fail
 
He became entranced by the wondrous women; 
as the surrounding air turned increasingly erotic. 
They were devastatingly beautiful and their song… 
was hauntingly hypnotic

Soon enough, the dancing came to a halt
As if they’d detected the watchman’s gaze, 
They turned to him with eyes of fire 
Condemning him in horrific ways

They took to the air and flew toward the moon 
leaving the watchman behind
And in that final moment He knew 
The Iele had rendered him deaf, dumb and blind
--
We gather here on this 23rd Eve of June 
to take our own chilling chance
So heed the call when the Iele look your way,  
and dare not deny their invitation to dance.

If you would have told me 6 years ago when I attended my first Zero party, that I would one day be playing there myself, I would have never believed it. But it's truly incredible how much your life can change over the course of 6 years. This past April I had the honor to open my favorite stage of the notorious Zero Masquerade-- the Courtyard. It had been a few months since I had played in NYC and I really felt the love from all corners of the courtyard, surrounded by friends who came out for my 10pm start and who I knew would be there until the morning. Thank you to Richard and the team for giving me the opportunity, thank you to every one who came to dance, and thank you to everyone who is listening now. Hope you enjoy it!

This recording is from Norse Code's Post Man Burn party and it was my 5th gig of 7 this week. I went into it feeling completely run down, with no voice, surviving of cough drops and Propolis spray, exhausted and sleep deprived. But something about this camp and the people who make it up gave me such energy that all of that went out of the door once I got behind the decks. All of a sudden I was at 127 bpm bopping around like a new born baby in a bounce house. It ended up being my most fun gig and one of those gigs that reminds me why I love to do this. Uniting people on the dance floor and seeing everyones smiling faces and hearing the cheers of joy- there truly is no feeling like it! Thank you to Julia for inviting me and being such a supportive bad ass babe, and to Scott for hosting, for the campers and attendees, to my tour manager Richy (lol)  for the support in the booth, Chamboys, Anais, Maxxe, Andreyna +the crew for coming and ripping up the dance floor , and everyone else who was there to dance the night away. this mix is inspired by two beautiful weeks spent in tulum last month. let it take you on a journey beginning at the beaches of tulum, and moving deep into the jungle where you find a party and spend all night dancing until finally ending at a beautiful sunrise... in true tulum fashion. enjoy!

I know its been a while since I've posted a mix and apologize for that. I've been struggling to figure out how to musically communicate a response to everything that has gone on in the last 7 months.  Beginning with a global pandemic, followed shortly by one of the US's biggest civil rights movements as a response to 400 years of systemic racism, all the while Australia, the Amazon, and California experience record breaking wild fires and areas around the world undergo massive flooding. If one thing became clear, it's that our planet is reaching its breaking point and if we don't act now, we may not exist much longer. So please, whatever you do, do something. Small actionable steps DO help- don't underestimate your power and OUR power as a collective society. Whatever you do, don't forget nature.

this set was recorded live from the gorgeous club of azulik called "xooch" on january 31, 2021, just six days after tulum succumbed to inevitable covid regulations. it is a symbolic representation of my continual struggle between the urge to obey the covid restrictions that keep us all separated, and the urge to disobey, continuing to unite people through music. you can hear this specifically toward the end where I struggle to play "chill/downtempo" as I'd been instructed to play on the day off.  it became so difficult to resist the primal urge to encourage people to dance, and you may be able to sense my struggle when you listen. I hope you enjoy the journey and can feel the love coming through this set, as much as I felt while playing it. enjoy!!
