[EYX016] 'Last Laugh' - Preview Clips:

Following their outstanding appearance on Kindergarten Records VA Fluo III, Brooklyn-based DJ and producer Martini debuts on Early Reflex with their first EP titled ‘Last Laugh’.

Touching sonic landscapes adjacent to Leftfield Techno, Dubstep and Electro, Martini explores in their 4-tracker the power to impact on both body and mind through their immersive sound achieved by a precise manipulation of timbre and rhythm from the American producer.

Title track ‘Last Laugh’ opens the journey into Martini’s world with syncopated beats and its punch kick surrounded by warped effects and a texture of arpeggiated synthesisers.
Mood and BPMs shift into electro-mode in’If I Don’t Laugh I’ll Cry’ a heavy distorted synth signals to the listeners that an explosive beat is about to drop.
The dance keeps going on and on with ‘Chaste’ which follows next, a wormhole of incessant kick-drums, pitch-shifting effects and punchy-basses.
The atmospherical state of‘Serendipity’ close the sonic journey into Martini’s world, where mind-twisting pads and undistinguishable vocals pre-announce the landing on an extraterrestrial dub-heavy “sonosphere”.

Martini said:
“This EP represents my deep interest in expressing convoluted emotions and narratives through the precise manipulation of timbre and rhythm. I’m fascinated by the power sound has over your mind and body despite the level of abstraction it can exhibit, which I try to exploit by carefully crafting each sound.”

Accidental melodies and textural forms comprise Kin Teal’s Ecosystem, the Budapest-based producer’s second EP of iridescent club-not-club zones and debut for Human Pitch. Bridging 130-140 leftfield bass with liquid downtempo chuggers, Kin Teal uncovers hidden melodies in the resonant frequencies of percussion. “By amplifying certain frequencies in drum breaks, our brains latch onto that as a melody. These melodies are often askew, not perfectly tuned, and I wanted to embrace that.”

Doubling down on the record’s title and theme, Kin Teal played with the idea of a record in which each sound and track reacts to one another. Tubular melodies coil around syncopated drums as though by reflex and vocal blips flit through the gaps. There’s a clockwork but also a fluidity to Kin Teal’s oblique rhythms, which trace the producer’s growth, bending blueprints with a vibrant curiosity.

Strict Face has undoubtedly been one of the most exciting names to emerge from the club music scene over the last decade. Championed by labels such as NLV, Local Action, Gobstopper and Different Circles, the Australian producer has built up an impressive back catalog of releases over the years that have pushed genre boundaries in every direction possible, as well as providing a relentless stream of heat for DJ's USB sticks worldwide.

On this new release, the no-frills ‘Sin Drum’ kicks things off with a relentless assault of syncopated drums, leading into the delirious headrush of ‘Instant Swelter’ which melts breakbeats and vocal slices into a sweat-serving portion of rave ritalin. ‘Poison Finish’ pushes the low end to ludicrous levels before we finish with the thick soundscapes of ‘Casual Contact’ - washing the frenzy of the release in waves of psychedelic notes.

Every release from Strict Face has brought something new to the table, and with the highly anticipated ‘Thirst For Nerve’ EP releasing with his very own collective SLG International, the accomplished producer conjures up four brain bending tracks guaranteed to cause maximum club carnage. This certainly isn’t one to miss.

PREMIERE: Strict Face - Instant Swelter [SLG International]

We are very excited to welcome DJ QGB to the All Centre fold for ACEN057. After releasing two exceptional LPs in 2018 and 2022, he steps out from his own label Present Tense for the first time to explore a club-ready approach to his singularly intricate sound. Across the four tracks, he strips his work down to basics and chases “expensive sounds”.

Kicking things off in a wonky half-time groove, Animus Type Beat guides the listener through a heady, dubbed-out soundscape with forceful, stuttering kicks. Mechanical vocal chops and dub sirens give way to a tense, urgent melody which sounds and then submerges back into the track’s compelling percussive explorations. 

The Truth, featuring Freesound uploader Roses1401, takes on classic UKG ideas and transposes them firmly into the future with intricate, optimising sound design. Heavily swung drums hold down a hypnotic groove while subsonic basslines dive below. Meanwhile, haunting vocal samples and powerful string swells add a dramatic edge to the track.

Powpowpoww lives up to its name with a rushing, high-energy groove punctuated by synth swoops and oddball percussive sounds. An understated bassline makes its way to the fore with the addition of a glitched-out M1 organ patch, which plays out a haunting harmony to the addictive sub pattern.

QGB closes the EP with Halloween Track, a tense, kickless excursion. A stuttering, percussive melody lays the groundwork for the track, whilst manic samples and percussion build the tension to increasingly strained levels. The arrangement gives way to a heavy reese-bass breakdown before simmering out with repeated vocal chops.

Despite the efforts of organizers around the world, and the overwhelming disapproval of the international community, Israel continues in their campaign to see the displacement, murder, occupation, and apartheid of Palestinians to its brutal end with the help of the USA and UK.

As artists operating in the West, we call unequivocally for an end to this violence, for justice in the Palestinian struggle, and for the US and UK’s divestment of political and financial capital from the genocidal Israeli state.

We gather this music to offer our solidarity, make our position clear, and encourage others to continue advocating and organizing for the Palestinian liberation struggle.

Bait’s second VEP (Various EP) is a 4-track dive into a rather modern phenomenon: 150 dubstep, as DJs and crowds seem to be enjoying the faster bass sounds, yet broken rhythms and heavy halftime pulses. For this release we’ve got L.A.’s rising bass-music star @carreo, specialised in racing wobblers, who recently released her second solo EP on her label @fastatwork (first one was on Darwin's @specrecords). Track 2 is Berlin-based Femme Bass Mafia member @gaia-formella’s first ever release, a reflection of her upbringing in and around London, drawing inspiration from playful breaks to deep wobbly bass. Third track is by @fastcastle label captain Gent1le $oul, also Berlin-based and pushing hybrid dubstep in the German capital with hot vinyl releases and parties. Last but not least, @splt_music’s mental banger “Grill Party” that Beatrice M. happened to discover in Laksa’s Truant podcast (https://soundcloud.com/truants/truancy-volume-318-laksa) and reached out after dropping an “ID?” comment on soundcloud. The Lyon-based producer never misses, his tracks have been played out multiple times by Garçon and Agonis, in the continuity of merging bass and techno, always with an aspect of prog.
