NYC label Kindergarten Records celebrates its 10th release, just two years after its inception, with a new EP from local artist Drummy.

What feels like a full circle moment, Drummy was the first artist to release on Kindergarten alongside Sha Ru, so it seems only right that he returns for his first solo EP on the label to signify this landmark moment. Speaking about the release, Drummy says, ‘I wanted to see if I could push by usage of the stereo field while keeping things buoyant and danceable with forward motion’. 

Along with the announcement of the record today is the exclusive stream of ‘Turbine Squelch’ with the track living up to its name. A powerful cut driven by unceasing stutter of drum hits and squelching acid-like echos 

The label and crew was founded by Ma Sha, Kindergarten Records has made its name for rowdy and unpredictable club music, releasing records from the likes of Despina, Ayesha, Stolen Velour, Sha Ru and Ziyiz.

The silence in the room was deafening; an air of unease had been present ever since she entered the room. For the past few days he'd made a decision to grin and bear it, there wasn't long before he could remove himself from this situation for good - until then he'd keep himself to himself and say nothing at all. In all honesty, he was out of words now, there was nothing left to say that hadn't been said already, she couldn't turn back the hands of time...

Infinite Machine made a statement with their final release of 2021. A celebration of them reaching 10 years in the game, the label are now looking ahead to another packed year continuing their exploration of the weird corners of contemporary dance music.

Following a label return from Soft As Snow last month, Infinite Machine welcome Greek-born producer Aroent to the family for a four-track EP, made up of three originals and a rework from Deaf Test boss Ploy. You can hear the different influences that inform his approach - touches of IDM, UK techno, bass and experimental funnel into the dense, layered compositions, which are full of heavy drum programming, crisp percussion and plenty of swing.

For the 40th release on All Centre, label co-head Simkin provides three new cuts on his second record of the year, Entity.

Beatless ambient opener Sinks In eases us in with whirring field recordings, glitched choral vocals and sublime pads, immediately setting the atmosphere for the record. Throughout, later elements of the EP are teased amongst disorentating sound design and soaring chords. 

The end of the track leads directly into low-tempo stormer Entity. Alien-sounding vocals give way to a heavy, low-slung drum pattern before a dubbed-out transition introduces the track’s bone-rattling bassline. Later, the arrangement eventually breaks back down amongst glitchy arpeggiated synths, before further ramping up the intensity with the reintroduction of booming subs, punctuated by a rising air raid siren.

Finally, Click! lifts the tempo, landing in an upbeat, electro-inspired groove. Short snippets of vocals are teased amongst understated pads before a low, gliding bassline propels us forward. Angelic, autotuned vocals and chopped and rearranged amongst echoing chords and soaring lead synths, the elements weaving amongst each other as the track progresses. 

Entity is available across all platforms on the 5th of August.

Finishing off Henzo’s banner 2022 that has seen releases on YCO and Peder Mannerfelt Produktion, the Manchester based producer dials back the tempo into 5 cuts of gloom-ridden dancefloor damagers for his Nervous Horizon debut. Running the gamut of Dancehall, Techno and Drum & Bass, the EP’s refined palette is laser-guided in its intention of favouring groove and atmosphere over melody and hooks.

The opening track, 'Survivorship Bias', rolls out a lurching and smudged drum break over an equally sketchy Donk and vocal sample in a Bolton-meets-Belgium chug affair. 'It’s Ours and Hours Alone' and 'Writhing' lean more towards a typical Dancehall rhythm, smattered with the reticulated percussion that Nervous Horizon have been known for, saturated and growling. 'His Troublesome Knees' sees a variation on the theme of the opener, with the addition of harrowing, gnarly strings that posit drama in the riff that runs almost throughout; An inescapable tension that juxtaposes the highly danceable groove. Rounding out Stretford Blues, 'A Pocket You Didn’t Expect' feels like 3 tempos at once: 82, 164 and 328BPM. The battering, unrelenting kicks laced over taut breaks and hats hark to Jungle Techno and Tech Step in their composition, but the drawn out and bleak orchestral breakdown, coupled with a barking, irate bassline, suggest that Henzo shows no allegiance to nostalgia and is moving intently into the future.

What do clouds sound like?  For 3024's first release of 2023, we are super proud to present an exploration of that question by the amazing Italian-Ivorian producer Ehua on her new EP.  

"Clouds EP" consists of four sonically and energetically varied tracks inspired by the paradoxical nature of these mood-shifting objects, suspended in space. They can be heavy or light, menacing or comforting, distraught or at ease. They are still but in motion, they can cause fear and confusion or give you strength, awareness and empowerment.  Ehua's music combines live handmade percussion and flutes (the ancient Duduk on Nefele and recorder on Vola) with fierce drum programming and synth work.  This is music for the mind and the 'floor! Enjoy.
