Real treat in store for Episode 11 of Between the Beats (and my 10th interview…wooop!!)

Phil Fokus, or MC Fokus is the first MC I get to speak with on my podcast. This came about super organically when Phil hit me up saying he had been enjoying listening to some previous episodes. Other than being a huge fan of his music and how he narrates the underground.. I’ve held MC Fokus and his wisdom in high regard.

We speak in depth about self confidence, keeping the spirit healthy and happy and what does it mean to have true fulfilment both in ones music career, but in life as a whole. This is the sort of conversation that can really inspire and teach everyone, not just somebody within the music industry. I feel like we challenge each other to be self reflective and maybe even quite vulnerable in this conversation and I hope this encourages some of you to do the same within yourselves!

We went deep, yes, but we also discussed the state of Drum and Bass, the power of the Underground scene and the feeling of hunger that’s running through it at the moment. But we also talked about the fact it needs support and some ways in which that can be done. We discussed the many cycles of mindset and intention and how it affects your mental well being, and as a result, how you feel about your music and trajectory. My favourite part… is when we speak about the notion of ‘One Scene.’

AHHHH honestly, I really love this one! Big up Fokus – I needed that!

DnBad Trip. FREESTYLE VOL.1 is a concept drum and bass album built around controlled genre collisions. Each track explores drum and bass as a core system forced into contact with another musical language - from jazz and classical motifs to tribal rhythms, ambient noise and broken club aesthetics.

The secondary genres are not blended smoothly but distorted, absorbed or rejected by the DnB framework, creating tension, instability and altered perception. The album moves like a single night trip: fragmented, intense, sometimes disorienting, but always intentional.

Sandglow, only the transhumanists ceased to live in New Beijing, their improved skin based on a nanite technology allowed them to survive the acid drizzle that is falling from the SkyGlow.

They are the lords of a desolate land made only by robotic remains and sand remains.

Sand from the electromagnetic shock wave of the shield that broke during the SkyGlow and exploded into billions of glittering grains of glass.

When the sun sets on New Beijing, the horizontal rays strike the remains of quartz, of diorite, and of glass, and then reflect towards the black clouds that persists since the SkyGlow. Which gives a mesmerizing and distressing spectacle in the same time.
At this moment the New Beijing becomes SandGlow.

Every day, the tears of what remains human inside of me crush in the roar of the thunder and acid drizzle.

And this music, vestige of my old life, resonates...
