we are beyond excited to be back with a new edition of the Movement13 Mix Series. this time we are happy to invite dj @yamour030 from berlin. her vinyl only-mix is dedicated to the early nineties in Detroit and time warps us right to beginnings of Underground Resistance, Suburban Knight, Octave One and many more. yamours love for vinyl brought her to working at Hardwax since 2019 - the infamous berlin record store, which played a mayor role in selling electronic music in berlin since '89 and especially helping artists from detroit to spread their music throughout europe. before you hit the play button – last words go to yamour:

So here’s a recording of the set I played for one of the last editions of the Wohnzimmer party (their parties that go for at least 24 hours) on April 30th at Distillery. The club just needed to close down their current location (for anyone who lives behind the moon and didn’t know yet), so I thought this would be a good occasion. 

The club has been run by the founder Steffen Kache ever since it openened in 1992. Of course I’m not aware of all stories that happened during that time, but I think this is pretty remarkable to be open for such a long time, stay relevant and up to date. They were under a steady development, no radical steps that would scare off their regular guests (let’s face it, every club that’s open for a long time needs a loyal fanbase), but also enough change to attract young & new people. 

My set was actually the last set on the upper floor of the party, I was booked for an „extended closing set“, so I came well prepared to deliver a big range of club music. The upper floor is the more or less house music floor, but in my understanding the cheesy side of house never really worked that well there on normal occasions. The crowd fancies a certain kind of oomph. Some techno-ish vibes added to a house track, so, well, tech-house in that sense. OK, some emotional vibes were added later in the set. In the end, the set was not really extended, but rather a standard length of 3 hours. Reasons for this vary, sometimes a club is just not as pack as anticipated, but I made the best of it. 

I’m happy that I witnessed the actual and final closing of the club 4 weeks later on May 31st outside the club. Paying tribute to a legendary place just by attending an event, excellent feeling. The club has got a new permanent location, which still requires a lot of work and also a new temporary location which requires slightly less work. I hope the work will finish soon and Leipzig gets its Distillery back rather soon than later.

Karina Schneider 
Karina Schneider has been involved in a dynamic space of electronic music growing up and embarked on a quest to explore the realms of sound. When she isn't playing techno, she enjoys playing house together with her father.
