4AY Townsville broadcast live from Mount Isa for the 1986 North Queensland Games utilising the studios of 4LM at 67 West Street. Interview recorded with Tony McGrady, alderman and mayor of Mount Isa City Council from 1985 to 1989. At the 2012 Queensland local government elections, he was again elected mayor of Mount Isa until his retirement in 2016.

Taken from a five inch tape reel recorded on a Sharp RD-505 tape recorder circa 1970 at Intake Road Redlynch. Eric had returned from one of his regular sales trips to PNG with a new recorder. Listen closely and you can hear Eric as the "orchestra".
Technical note: the tape recorder did not play at pitch perfect speed.

In the mid 1970s Kent Ford Mount Isa scored well with Australian recording artist Kevin Johnson writing and singing a jingle that made a strong emotional connection with the target audience on Color Radio 4LM.

Early 1983 and NQTV celebrated 21 years of broadcasting. It began at TNQ-7 Townsville (launched on November 1, 1962)

Edited aircheck of the last 15 minutes of Star 106.9 FM - from memory it was 12 October 2001 from 1545hrs to 1600 hrs - From 1600 the station re-branded as River 94.9 to coincide with a change of frequency from 106.9.

12 Oct 2001 - from 1600 to 1800 the ids were 'censored'. The station name was finally revealed at 1800 hrs. This launch is now a distant memory of what might have been if 94.9 (or Star 106.9) transmitters had made it on to Mt Nebo (as was nearly the case) with an improved metro coverage. History will record a valiant attempt to replicate the success of 4IP in the 1970s, but it was doomed owing to lack of a stronger signal in critical metro areas and the subsequent launch of two new FM stations in Brisbane. However all is not lost. Current owners of River 94.9, Grant Broadcasters, must be congratulated on making River a success in the western corridor and for maintaining a full service local radio station serving Ipswich and the region in the era of downloads and broadcast hubs.

2Day FM advertised a launch date of 11 July 1980 with a  full page advertisement in the Daily Telegraph the day before, however delays with the transmitter installation delayed the official launch until 2 August 1980. As is the custom in the lead up to a launch test transmissions took place. This is a 3 minute "station song" taken from a test broadcast on 17 July 1980. It was a very different 2Day FM to the one we know today. Source: audio cassette recorded at Homebush West NSW.
