Echoes of the Dancehall delves into the world of reggae, dancehall, and ragga sound clashes between 1988 and 1995. This sound collage features rare tape recordings from iconic sound systems from England and Jamaica including Sir Coxsone, Bass Odyssey, Stone Love, Jamrock, Jah Love, Kilimanjaro, Arrows, Super Dee, and the esteemed blues dance sound Touch of Class. The mix transitions between moments of competition, heart-stirring dubplates, and crowd eruptions, painting a vivid picture of the dancehall atmosphere.

Each snippet from these sound clashes acts as a portal to a bygone era, where sound system crews battled for supremacy and musical dominance, pushing the boundaries of creativity to earn the reputation as the champion sound. Echoes of the Dancehall weaves together a tapestry of sounds and scenes, capturing the essence of the era while paying homage to the legendary pioneers who paved the way for future generations.

Recorded live at B.A.D. x UNFOLD XCVII in the Steam Room at FOLD, London – April 2025.

This was my first time playing at FOLD and one of the most meaningful sets I’ve shared. FOLD is a space I’ve respected for years, and it was an honour to contribute to a lineup curated by Black Artist Database consisting entirely of black artists - something that still feels all too rare in electronic music.

The intention behind this opening set was to create a space that felt warm, bouncy and physical from the very first track drawing from the sounds that inform my perspective, building into a direction that connects pressure with joy. I kept the tempo steadily increasing with shifts in texture and intensity to keep the energy growing.

The event also supported Focus Congo, a non-profit working to improve lives in the eastern region of the Democratic Republic of Congo, making the whole ting all the more purposeful.

Deep thanks to the UNFOLD crew, the dancers in the room, and the artists who followed. This one stays with me.

B.A.D. x UNFOLD XCVII | FOLD | 13th April 2025

The first edition of the All Crew takeover series comes from Newcastle-based DJ and producer Janay. A Rhythm Section Future Proof alum and Slacks Radio resident, Janay brings a sharp ear for rhythm, emotion, and sonic space.

This mix covers ground. UK bass, broken beat, techno and soulful percussion, all held together by smart rhythmic switches, textured layering, and a steady pulse that drives both body and mind. Music for the floor with enough depth for introspection.

He’s also one of the most personable and grounded artists I know. Glad to have him set the tone for what’s to come.

Her mix for Oroko pays tribute to the roots of house and Detroit techno while pushing into modern, percussive directions. More than just a guest slot, it’s an introduction to an artist whose voice is growing stronger, one I’d encourage you to follow, support, and experience in the club.
