Love Letters enters the Allergy Season fold for his debut EP on the label, Projecting. The EP presents Love Letters doing the work he knows best: taking us for a ride. This trip begins by throwing us into the saddle at full trot on “With Stallions,” a galloping, panoramic piano banger with a booty. That distinct Love Letters vibe rings clear in the track’s flirty functionality, featuring slinky hats and cheeky claps designed to move the body, clip-clopping atop a tickle of acid and euphoric synths. The EP continues to juice us out with the simultaneously crunchy yet deeply moisturizing “Vazeline,” and the persistently rejuvenating “Villa V” (wherever that is…), where we are greeted at the veranda with a swinging, hyaluronic acid groove, billowing over in lush synth glissandos and hazy, diaphanous pads that disperse to reveal sprawling vistas beyond the eucalyptus steam. The final track “Tantalize” winds down our journey in a thoughtful wash of gorgeous dub, nourishing us yet leaving us wanting more.

Born in the bucolic mountains of Vermont and based in New York City, Love Letters (aka Maxime Robillard) is a producer, DJ, sound artist, and vibe curator extraordinaire, running the experimental ambient event series Hypnotic Spa (co-curated with dj s) and releasing music on labels like Mister Saturday Night and The Bunker NY. Most recently he contributed to Car Culture’s Dead Rock LP on Allergy Season sub-label Lighthead Records. Love Letters truly is a multifaceted mood chauffeur, reaching wide across energies in his pursuit of sounds for all occasions that mobilize bodies and activate minds.

Traxman is one of the early pioneers of Chicago’s juke/footwork scene with highly regarded releases on labels such as Dance Mania, Teklife, Planet Mu and Moveltraxx. He also co-founded the G.E.T.O. DJ’z collective with Pablo Diskobar and Shawn Madness in 1992 which went on to include others such as DJ Roc, DJ Clent and Jammin Gerald. 

With his first EP out in 1996 on Dance Mania, it wasn’t until 2012 that Traxman found international success as he released his debut album ‘Da Mind of Traxman’ on Planet Mu. Following this came the reactivation of Dance Mania where he released Westside Boogie, Vol. 3 in 2013, Vol. 2 on Da Mind Traxman in 2014 and also Tekvision on Teklife in 2017. 

Making his first appearance on Moveltraxx in 2011, the legend now returns with ‘Get Up’ EP. Released tomorrow, the record features a collaborative track with fellow Dance Mania member DJ Funk.

Premiere: Traxman - Get Up

To wind up 2020, Allergy Season is excited to share Drum Control – 6 tracks of fierce, forceful house (and beyond) from Lady Blacktronika. 

Connecting the dots between a brand of ultra-deep house first mastered in the early 2000’s on the West Coast, and tough-as-nail techno transmitted from Berlin under her Femanyst alias, Drum Control is a jump forward for Lady Blacktronika. Hers is a sound sketched out over dozens of releases, now etched into stone: emotive singing and unyielding sample mastery, channeled through raw emotional house, disco and techno.  “Can I Turn Too” leads us off with a step out of the darkness and into the light; all glint and glimmer, with one final glance over the shoulder before moving on. “Drum Control” is pure slow-cooked funk, warm and powerful with a lysergic swirl to it, a callback to Lady Blacktronika’s storied history cutting and chopping extended disco edits.

Extended is the byword for the EP’s core: over nearly 7 minutes “Female Troubles” plays out a back-and-forth between the mantras of “you give good love” and “I still want you to call me,” an opus to the “dilemmas of womanhood.” She runs it even longer on “Tootfairy Noises,” keeping the pressure at a simmer, leading a bass-heavy, whistle-driven carnival of the damned that can step toe-to-toe with any psychedelic techno without breaking a sweat.

If the rasping open hi-hats and earworm chords of “Shoulda Known Better 2018” make you wish the song would roll on endlessly, you’re in luck. Lady Blacktronika doubles down with an infectious “Reverso” twist, bringing the beat back one last time with a harder edge and hypnotic crunch. Drum Control is a reinforcement of what some know, and more are due to find out: that after all these years, we’re still living in A Blacktronika World.
