I have been exploring ideas surrounding the beginning of a club and how you make first ‘contact’ with the dancers who walk in. For me it is a kind of sci-fi experience because you’re pulling strangers into your world of audio which can feel like such an alien experience- or at least that’s how I want people to feel, like it’s a vessel for discovery akin to space travel. I’ve been drawn to more downtempo sounds feeling it resonates with this more psychedelic experience of djing, as well as the experience for the clubbers. I want people to really d a n c e and get pulled into the gravity of what i’m curating. Hopefully this mix series will fulfill these ideas and in the process help myself discover new ways of weaving records together, all with the goal of expanding the mind and body.

In her own words...
'Through this mix I wanted to explore the idea of the heroes journey, with moments of intensity and hope by playing with bpm, rhythm and ambient motifs. I wanted to have a slow build of tension throughout, ending with something more upbeat as a release from the moodiness of the mix and to signify a new chapter in the journey.'

Naafi is a truly rare creative talent and is equally rare in the extent of her integrity and kindness as a person. This mix is a sublime blend of what it means to weave tracks together unravelling a celestial journey. Keep eyes and ears peeled over this coming year for her first EP release, her productions share a detailed and emotional infinity with how she approaches this stunningly expansive mix 💫

Alliyah sings to her dreams in darkness~ midnight by the ocean and shrouded in rainfall, her words cloaked as if summoning a lover.

Harnessing traditional styles of wailing song and contemporary r&b, Alliyah has created a multi-spacial, multi-layered work which threads elements of studio recordings and home-made tape loops mixed with live site recordings. This work takes the form of a seductive yet lullaby song in order to slowly reveal its true intention~ to summon prophetic dreams.

Alliyah's sound piece is currently installed in Southwark's stunning concrete church, Dilston Gallery London, as part of her Aphotic Archaeology installation for the Jerwood Survey III Award. Alliyah will be activating her installation June 20th, 2024 by performing an extended live version which encapsulates an ethereal story echoing a futuristic aphotic apocalypse and the strange creature that awakens. Objects and relics from within the installation become unearthed using movement and vocal scores creating a haunting landscape.
