Since moving to Amsterdam over a year ago, I’ve become heavily influenced by the Old School / Hard Groove sound that characterises the city’s after-hours sound. I’ve always woven in that vibe with my hard techno mixes but I wanted to create a mix that fully celebrated the atmosphere that I’ve experienced at parties such as @vault-sessions-collective ‘s infamous weekenders in Bret & Radion. 

Beyond this, I wanted to also highlight the many Irish producers who have been pushing a similar groove focused sound. The result is a pure juxtaposition which represents the two locations which underpin my techno fascination. 

The mix originally premiered on the Estonian National Radio station Raadio 2 for Merimell’s “Machine Nation” show.

Our second podcast installment of the year comes from Limerick based artist Matthew McGowan aka Magoo taking the reins for Episode 069 in the series.

Matthew has proven himself to be one of the most promising artists to hit the Limerick techno scene in recent years through his residency with Touch Of Techno as well as making regular appearances at Pharmacia for collectives such as Izotope, Kemmy Gaff and Envisage where he has shared the stage with a host of Irish and international talent. 

Outside of the club circuit Matthew has been busy on the production front having recently released “Catch 22” via the Motz Berlin platform. A track filled with groove and flow that’s layered with vocal samples and an ambient dub cord to take you through time. 

Strap yourselves in for a fast paced mix of grooves reminiscent of the old school sound of the 90s & 00s.

The Rave Selekts boss and Techno & Cans resident’s rise to worldwide notoriety has been unprecedentedly quick but most definitely deserved.Since he first emerged he has flexed his production muscles in a big way, showcasing styles across techno, rave, jungle as well as going as far as club house that has attracted the attention of big hitters like Dax J, Mall Grab and even Mixmag, all of whom have touted him on the highest platforms. Having released on his own label Rave Selekts along with fellow Irish talent Casper Hastings and then attracting the glistening ears of Resident Advisor and DJ Mag, who both premiered tracks from his first solo EP that took different aspects of his adolescence in Rush and reimagined them in four tracks that touch on ambient, rave, techno and break beat in what was easily one of the most interesting releases of the year on an international scale.  Following on from the success of his debut vinyl release on Haven last year, his next Haven release is just as banging, but represents a new turn in the young producer’s sound with greater focus on hardcore euphoria, released November 22nd
