One of the Christmas albums we had when I was a kid was John Denver’s Rocky Mountain Christmas, so this song gives me those holiday feels.

Day 10 of 12 Covers for Christmas is Bob Dylan’s Moonshiner, by request.

I do love this song & heard it first from Cat Power, who was a huge influence on me. Maybe even more than Bob.
But I’m more faithful to the BD version here for sure! 

This was another instance of me singing the song for the first time through and being able to think to hit record, which is always a fun surprise when it comes out OK￼.

I’d like to visit the moon

I’ve been lucky enough to have been exposed to Sandy Denny’s beautiful voice since I was a child, and grew up singing along with her recordings. 

This past week I’ve been spending some time with one of the Bert Jansch guitars that are traveling the globe right now, & before I put it away to ship off this morning, I wanted to play one of Sandy’s songs, I’m sure Bert would approve .

At the end that is my husband‘s twin brother John walking through the door and immediately noticing a new guitar :))

Another first take magic take, & Lys told me the quote from her band mate which is absolutely how I feel.

I drove to Connecticut to record with Lys on a beautiful Sunday , road trips are fun for me , especially when you get to play music & eat some of Lys’s homemade bread & stew.

Lys had given me a whole playlist of songs to choose from, but I heard Holy Ghost from Low & fell in love.
I hope Mimi can hear , wherever she is ❤️

When I asked Tracie to sing with me I asked her to pick a song, she chose Calling All Angels by Jane Siberry (& KD Lang)

I’d never heard this one before so I would play it in the car to learn it, and I’d come home from work with my face covered in tears because this song really moved (destroyed) me. 

The holidays are beautiful because they make us think of family , but Holidays also hold up a magnifying glass to the family dynamic, whatever it is , and along with all those beautiful new babies, there’s also people missing that will never be there again. 

To me this song was more of a fever prayer than just a song,￼

And you can call on an angel, or a higher power, or just lean into a song to help get you through.￼
