Bristol-based label Durkle Disco shining light on producers in grime, dubstep, garage, hip hop and experimental 130 bpm sounds, put together a compilation of all the above mentioned styles under the title Definitions Vol. 1.

The span of the artists involved is world-wide, including producers like Lamont, Lojik, Daffy & Unkey, Gundam, Body Double, Mythra and more. The solid line up ensures the quality of the compilation, and even if you don’t recognize some of the aforementioned names, you can rely on our stamp of approval. And Loefah’s, and Plastician’s, Bok Bok’s, Mr Mitch’s, Dusk & Blackdown’s, Addison Groove’s etc…

We picked one of our favorite tracks from the compilation (and it was a tough choice) to give you a little taste of what you can expect from this 13-tracker. Maribor’s “Mei Chen” rolls out the bass chopped up with shattering glass, sino-sonics, and slightly eerie radio transmissions.

Plastician - Lightning Bolt [Free Download]

It's fairly safe to say genre titles are at an all-time low in terms of value. Cross-pollination is so rife now that such tags are almost meaningless. Case in point: Murder He Wrote's latest EP, Stopwatch (out Feb. 26 via Roska Kicks & Snares), bridging the gaps between house, bass music, and funky. Title track "Stopwatch" brings together that infectious funky percussion, a classic house synth melody and a wobbly bassline, all tied together with Maddie Ellerby's smoky, late-night vocals. "I've got kind of a magpie approach to producing," says Murder He Wrote, "in that I'm always on the lookout for ways of recombining sounds and production approaches from different genres into hopefully something more fresh." From what MHW tells us, the B-side, "Lights Up", continues in that vein with "a contrasting but still complimentary vibe of club music, with plenty of light and shade."

​When it comes to new music informed by garage we hold our hands up, we’re the first to admit that we can be pretty sceptical. Its a genre and time we hold so dear yet many are often quick to shoot down any new song or style that uses the UK garage through some form of misplaced sense of nostalgia. LA based producer Kastle proves us and everybody else wrong with his latest offering that brings the 90s UK garage flavour with a new school twist. Did we forget to mention its an absolute banger?

My Nu Leng’s popularity has grown intensely over their last few months following a few breakout releases on LNUK and 877 Records. The duo from Bristol are gradually bringing down the tempo from their Dubstep routes into more Garage territory. Their remix displays their signature sprawling bass hits with dark warehouse undertones. The vocals harmonise perfectly with their synths to form a beautifully expansive outro.
