First and foremost Rebecca Vasmant has a deep obsession with music and sound and from a young age has always been interested in how sound works. This obsession has lead onto becoming one of the most cutting edge DJs around playing all genres of music within sets. Techno, House, Jazz, Soul, Funk, Disco and world music are all predominant in her sets, bringing her love of both electronic and live music onto the dance floor. Known for being credible and unique, Rebecca has made a huge blast onto the scene. Having headlined in over twenty two countries worldwide, she is fast becoming an established name within the industry. Brazil, Nicaragua, Africa, India, Dubai, Bulgaria, Estonia, France, Spain, Bosnia, Istanbul, Latvia, and Austria already under her belt and with Mexico and Brazil to come, being resident for Cabret Volataire Edinburgh and having played at places like We Love Space Ibiza, Zoo Project Ibiza, Back To Basics Leeds, We Love Sankeys Manchester, The Arches Glasgow, Sub Club Glasgow, Buff Club and Saundhaus Glasgow, Snafu Aberdeen, Rockness festival, The wickerman festival, The Tunnel Aberdeen, Cabret Volataire Edinburgh, Bongo Club, GRV and the Caves Edinburgh, Soulist Soundsystem Paris, Turnmills London, Ministry Of Sound London, East Village Shoredich, Public Life London and Pacha London, Also having headlined the Warehouse Bristol alongside Tommy Four Seven and Tania Von Pear, Open Air Festival in Milan quarterly and the Arches with Sebastian Leger, and not to forget her regular warehouse parties in her hometown of Glasgow her name is ever rising in the Electronic Music Scene. As a Producer Rebecca has had releases on labels such as Universal Music, Amour recordings and various others and is currently working on a first album due to drop late 2013, as well as collaborating with some of the best names in the underground house and techno scene as well as working on various live Jazz projects under her second alias which will see her name grow even further. Rebecca will be launching her own label in 2014 which will see the collaboration of various Jazz artists, musicians and electronic musicians working together to create a fusion project pushing music to the forefront of scenes which less contemporary styles of this music would perhaps not normally be seen within. On top of all of this Rebecca hosts a monthly party in her hometown of Glasgow alongside James Johnston (No Matter What Records) which has seen names such as Tom Middleton, Jeremy Underground (My Love Is Undergound), Terry Farley, Fabio Monesi (Wilson Records), Milton Jackson, Cottam and 6th Borough Project, with names such as Rick Wade, Terrance Parker, Kez Ym and many more to come Rebecca also promotes a bi monthly record fair at the Sub Club in Glasgow which sees many labels and vendors trading records, allowing people to come together for a day to appreciate music and support record sales. Labels such as Jazzman Records, Soma Records, Starla Records and many independent vendors trading Jazz, Funk, Latin, Classic Disco, Nothern Soul, World Music and many more regularly trade at the event as well as live art and music on the day.

Solid Steel (17th November) In Hour 1 we turn the spotlight on Mr Bongo the record shop and label that became an established bearer for hard-to-find, classic Latin music, particularly Brazilian, but also further afield and the first UK shop to sell vinyl releases from independent hip hop labels such as Def Jam, Rawkus and Nervous. It began in Venezuela 30 years ago – filling suitcases with amazing latin records to bring back to Europe. And it continued ever since; private warehouse visits in the US, dusty back street basements in South America, houses and garages in Africa, and lesser-known spots in Europe and Asia. Mr Bongo bring eclectic and unexpected Brazilian, Latin, African, Jazz, Soul, Reggae and Psychedelic flavours to the dance-floor with a seemingly bottomless stock of weird and wonderful selections. They told us;
"This mix was put together by David ‘Mr Bongo’ Buttle, Gareth Stephens, Gary Johnson and Graham Luckhurst. A selection of some of the deepest cuts from the their record collections, taking in Brazilian, African, soul, jazz, folk, psyche and disco. A reflection of what they spin during DJ sets and in radio shows plus a few mellow moods, chosen specifically to fit the Solid Steel vibe. Mostly acquired in a pre-Discogs world where the prices were nice. We hope you enjoy this mix and listen to it often."
