Following on from the 2016 Korea Undok Group compilation LP Penultimate Press is proud to release the follow up, Senescence. Covering material recorded in the last two and a half years, this new cd comprises 50% works previously available on private tiny run cassettes and 50% works made for an abandoned lp. Abandoned being a good word to use again here as this collection of barley-there trace element songs and decaying acoustic snapshots will leave the listener with a sensation not so dissimilar to the feeling abandonment conjures.

Please note there has been zero mastering on this release as we wanted it to sound as shit as possible.

“Distant Water Exotic Landscape” is a generative audio and visual installation that explores the micro and macro perceptions of environmental cycle system through the transformational and transmittable materiality of water. It invites audience to (re-)consider the interdependencies among human, water and technology, as well as the liminal boundaries between natural and artificial environments.

The installation creates an imaginary landscape on coloured paper, where the black ink is constantly washed out by vaporised molecules of the water collected from various sources such as a local river, rain, spring, and imported bottled water. A pair of headphones is given to each viewer one at a time as live recodings reveal the energetic activities behind the formation of landscapes. Two types of microphones are installed behind the paper: a hydrophone inside the water bottle — to magnify the movements of liquid water and its vaporised steam, and a pair of electromagnetic sensors — to capture the electric flow consumed by the water vaporiser.

The duration of forming a piece of “landscape” and its energy consumption is precisely controlled: each piece is made of one distinct source of water ‘transforming’ on one piece of paper, within 7 hours of completed vaporisation. In this sense, new landscapes are created on a daily basis until the end of the exhibition.

A 31:28 soundtrack titled “Distant Water Exotic Landscape - Post Installation Studies” is comprised of recordings originating from 2 different exhibition spaces and various formational phases of different landscapes. These digitally recreated soundscapes transform the physical event into reimagined energetic phenomena that are led by unnatural laws in the digital environments. They are presented through constantly shifting listening angles and time frames. Meticulous streams of environmental information are articulated by active listening, constantly forming newly-emerging fragmented realities.

A multitude of processes, techniques, and forms unfold and unfurl within the work of Méryll Ampe,
an intermedia artist from Paris working through sound, sculpture, and installation using a wide assortment
of materials. What is immediately striking about Ampe’s work is the vibrant, non-linear approach to
electro-acoustic composition.
Here on the debut for Misanthropic Agenda, Ampe liberally reconfigures / deconstructs / genetically mutates
all sources: hydrophone recordings of vibrations through skin, analog synths, tape machinations,
sequencing programmed through algorithmic variability, and plenty of digital processing.
As Ampe describes it, the music on W7E is "a research with an experimental dimension, guided by notions that
systematically translate a form of ambivalence, between inside/outside, micro/macro. These intentions are
vectors of the dynamics, reliefs, depths and rhythm. My training as a visual artist also leads me to go through
mental images (such as a steep landscape, a boiling organism, an organic matter) which will then find a
sound form, states that I would describe as syncope, sound effluvia, abrasive arrhythmias. I look for a form of
plasticity in the sound medium, and that this energy become a living matter."
This multi-dimensional overlay through composition telescopes in and out of the body (not necessarily always
a human body, it should be noted), through a connectivity with technology that can influence psychological states
of being. The work addresses liminality, transitory slippages, and quantum theories of a particle being the two
separate places at the same time. If that can occur at the atomic level, why not through sound?
W7E stands as a dynamic, polydactyl album reflective of the aesthetics (if not concepts) of Keith Fullerton Whitman,
Francisco Meirino, and Bernard Parmegiani.

Whisky soaked, nocturnal, brooding. Aging’s album ‘Troubles? I Got A Bartender’ was a noteworthy, film-noir infused suite that quietly slipped out on cassette in 2015 by a then budding Manchester avant-jazz ensemble, led by David McLean.

In 2020, amidst the pandemic’s tempest and winter's gloom, the idea manifested of showcasing McLean’s slow burning, wistful soirée in a new light via a curated effort

by Berlin’s Vaagner label, which invited a series of hand-picked artist to rework selected compositions from the album, rendering its mournful, smoke-tinged resonances into new shapes.

Showcased here, is one of these efforts, by Manchester based Craig Tattersall aka A Humble Bee.

Aloïs Yang is a media artist, performer and experimental musician. His work is influenced both by scientific reference and human imperfection of understanding the nature, and investigates the perception of time and space on both “outer” physical world and “inner” metaphysical levels of awareness – as a manifestation of how we contextualise the overlapping realities in between body and mind, objective explanation and subjective projection, analogue and digital, certainty and unknown.

He aims to engage viewer’s sensation and comprehension to the given moment of reality, portrayed by experiential phenomena and existential ideas – as an invitation to an incomplete journey waiting to be explored by active, participatory, intimate interactions that incorporate individual’s consciousness as the piece itself.
