I Have Witnessed the Water

Hip-notic urban World beat  roots fusion
with Maternal Soul.... from the 2013 Album, Purify.  This song is about my love for the southwest desert, where I lived for years.  There are strong djembe rhythms and solos, I am freestyling vocals overtop, and there is some sweet elec. tamboura throughout to give it a real word music fusion feel.  Back up vocals feature Diane Patterson.

with Maternal Soul.... Purify is the title track to my 2013 Album.  This groove expresses my love for Hawaiian-style reggae!  It is being currently played on the island airwaves.  This is a song I wrote many years ago that I recently recorded in Hawaii with love and support of producer Damon Williams.  Mahalo, bro!

my brother lives in a jungle concrete
like a belly gone to rumbling
only wants a taste of the sky
wind and fire, setting the seeds
for the son of his son come with him
one day to come
my sister her hands are raised
for the stakes are high and she knows it
and i am singing for her vision
singing for her vision

this is not mere speech
all we seek is here where we stand and
shape as clay, turning tides dug deep and
wider still to hold what comes
and wider still to say

we'll never be moved from here
our lives will live in the seeds we've sown
calling what's coming clear
our will is held in the gardens we've grown
as light from the sun we can give
as rivers meeting can become one
walk toward the call of this
and plant it deep for the ones to come

one day
none shall be imprisoned
for tending the land
for feeding our children
one day
we will cherish the soil
valued more than gold
its value more than gold

one day our hands will raise
for the way we walk and how we own it
and i am singing for this vision

A poet at heart with a love for the mystic, Aloka's writing has been deeply influenced by his hero's journey, his connection to hip-hop as a teenager and his heart songs through his soul connection to sacred world traditions, his elders, teachers & Indigenous wisdom keepers.  

Aloka collaborates with many artists ranging from world music, folk, hip-hop, medicine, roots and electronic producers. With roots originating from NYC, He now lives on Maui where he creates and also serves as a mentor, entrepreneur & activist.
