Going Nowhere

Despite their paradoxical name, A Lonely Alliance is the result of a longstanding songwriting partnership between Gustav Espenes and Sander Stedenfeldt Olsen. The indie duo from Norway, with their upcoming debut EP "Long Overdue", acquaints the world with their "chamber-pop" sound with a Scandinavian twist — string-laden arrangements, choral-like harmonies, and performance quality approaching the beauty and complexity of a classical ensemble.

Gustav Espenes, on acoustic guitar and vocals, and Sander Stedenfeldt Olsen with his articulated and unpredictable keyboard arrangements, create compositions more than songs. The full depth of their first recordings were fully realized only with the contributions of an all-star cast, including some of the most talented musicians within their local scene, expanding their line-up into a full-band setting.

A Lonely Alliance is contemplative yet enlightening; technically sound, while entirely organic. They bring to mind aspects of My Morning Jacket, late-era Beatles, Rufus Wainwright and Kashmir. A refreshingly creative experience of music that is melodic enough for a broad appeal, yet still embodying an integrity that rises above the noise of many contemporary performers.
