The Australian painter John Peter Russell got to know Vincent at Fernand Cormon’s studio. He painted this portrait of his friend in 1886 in a conventional, realistic style. It is clearly influenced by photography, although the face and the hand still show Impressionist touches. The portrait was not so dark originally. Another artist, Archibald Standish Hartrick, met Van Gogh at Russell’s studio. He later recalled: ‘[Russell] had just completed that portrait of him in a striped blue suit.’ You can indeed just make out a few little blue stripes at the lower edge of the painting. Analysis has revealed, moreover, that the words ‘Vincent, in friendship’ were painted in red over Van Gogh’s head. In Hartrick’s view, this was the most accurate portrait of Van Gogh – more realistic than the likenesses done by other artists or any of Vincent’s self-portraits. Van Gogh was very attached to it. Years later, he wrote to Theo: ‘take good care of my portrait by Russell, which means a lot to me.

Everyday, wherever this Tiger stands, her paws haunt the ground for long hours.

In Japan, some special rituals are only accessible to ladies born a Tiger year, because, it's said, only Tiger can walk 1000 steps and come right back to its first position.

"Hand in Hand" is the title of this mix, crafted with much Tiger Love and Energy: Tiger ShAnkAri uses to walk alone, hand in hand with a beloved ghost, partner of her Mary Poppin's bag kind of infinite Bubble-Matrix she architects... She mixes on a daily basis, as a fundamental part of her rituals - she started to tell her Chronicles in 2014, evolving into different musical spheres (Deep House /// Chillout/Ambient/Progressive Trance /// Trance Upbeat /// Techno) until she started to go Downtempo in 2015, creating the genre she called Ethno Deep, unable to tag properly her mixes. And this is where Tiger ShAnkAri aka AA B. lives since, telling and sharing the Chronicles of her loneliness, flowing mystic in her marvelous desert!

Unsere Nr. 264 kommt heute von einem wundervollen Geschichtenerzähler aus Wien, den wir vor gar nicht langer Zeit kennenlernten. Seine Mixe sind stets außergewöhnlich harmonisch zusammengestellt, teils schon organisch und ziehen so jeden Hörer direkt in den Bann. Man fühlt sich einfach nur wohl im Beisam seiner nahbaren Klänge. Verstärkt wird das Ganze zudem durch seine Liebe zum Detail. Denn in aller Regel erweitert er das nugische Sounderlebnis mit ausgewählten Ambient-Sounds und Field Recordings.  Musik wie gemalt für eine entspannte After während dem Sonnenaufgang.

✔️ Was sind deine musikalischen Einflüsse? 
 
Die Faszination für Jazz aus den 20er und 30er Jahren durchzieht mein gesamtes musikalisches Schaffen und begleitet mich schon seit meiner Kindheit. Schließlich hat sich mir mit den Genres Chillout und Trip-Hop eine Symbiose aus elektronischen Elementen und Jazz-Samples ergeben und mir eine ganz neue Welt geöffnet. Auf meinem Weg bis zur elektronischen Tanzmusik wurde ich von Produzenten wie Bonobo, DJ Shadow und Quantic inspiriert.
Selber spiele ich Schlagzeug und Percussions, wodurch meine Trackauswahl meistens sehr treibend und perkussiv ausfällt und mit Jazz-Elementen gemischt wird. Ich lasse mich grundsätzlich von einer Vielzahl von Künstlern inspirieren, solange die Musik abwechslungsreich ist und einen mitreißenden Groove hat. In den letzten Jahren habe ich mich verstärkt dem Downtempo zugewandt.


✔️ Was macht eurer Meinung nach her eine gute Afterhour aus?
 
Eine gute Anlage, DJ-Equipment und liebe Menschen.

✔️ Welche Gedanken mögt ihr uns zu eurem Mix mit auf den Weg geben?
 
Das Set ist eine Hommage an einen meiner skurrilsten Gigs. Zusammen mit zwei DJ-Freunden habe ich einen verwinkelten Keller-Club in Bratislava bespielt, der mich aufgrund seiner zahlreichen Sitzgelegenheiten und Nischen eher an eine Opiumhöhle erinnerte.

Nachdem die offizielle Veranstaltung beendet war, erklärte uns der Clubbesitzer überraschend, dass die Afterhour beginnt und wir weiterhin Musik spielen sollen. Da niemand genau wusste, was vorher mit ihm ausgemacht worden war, erklärte ich mich bereit nochmal loszulegen. Meine beiden Freunde sind schlafend in irgendwelchen Kissen versunken, und ich spielte einen Downer nach dem Anderen, um die Gäste endlich zum Heimgehen zu bewegen. Als Fahrer, der den Karren noch nach Hause bringen musste, wollte ich den Laden möglichst bald leer spielen. Dabei kramte ich alte Tracks aus meiner Lounge-Playlist hervor, die ich seit vielen Jahren nicht mehr gespielt hatte. 

Ich erreichte damit aber das Gegenteil, und die Gäste ließen mich nicht aufhören. Ich war trapped an den Decks in der Opium Höhle. Letztlich hab ich an der Situation dann doch gefallen gefunden. 
Um den Podcast aufzulockern habe ich allerdings auch aktuelle Lieblinge eingestreut, um es nicht ganz so streng zu machen ;)
