This is my very first podcast. 

DIY Underground is the product of me needing some motivation during winter months do keep focused on music. It is really easy to do something for a short time but to maintain it, and with quality, that therein lies the question... 

I've been working as a DIY Underground musician for a long time now. My roles have changed and there have been great years and not so great years. 

How do you stay motivated?

This one is a personal episode including an interview with my long-time best friend, Louane. She likes country music and hard rock. Unlikely duo? Maybe...

But we have been friends for over 30 years. 

I hope that you have a good support system in your life. Being a DIY Underground artist is a unique journey to be on and having the right people around you is imperative. 

Sometimes these people come from the music community but more often, these come from living a full life and friendships that span over decades. Those are the people you turn to when real life gets heavy. 
It's important to have people to laugh with and celebrate successes, it is important to have people you can truly be yourself with. 

What does this have to do with being a DIY Underground artist? When you have support, you are freer to be creative. You are comfortable and less distracted because you feel secure. 

This is when magic is made. 

The interview with Louane is just plain fun. Shenanigans and being obnoxious. Hope it makes you smile!

Toronto-based @amberlong, has trademarked a sound that is svelte and uniquely hers. 

Going by her own name, she is sought after and supported by big name artists and well-known labels. Her lyrics and voice are well known in the Underground music community. As a DJ, she is passionate and animated, demonstrative of someone who loves their work intensely and tears up dance floors across the world.

Long runs Toronto-based labels, Modern Agenda, new sublabel, Modern Architect and Honey Drops. Modern Agenda is rapidly becoming a go-to label for music lovers and artists alike and Honey Drops carries a different flavor, encouraging artists to share their ambient and downtempo creations.

Amber Long is the host of a monthly radio show on Frisky Radio called Rogue. It airs the second Monday of each month at 5pm, EST.
