Jodah's music was an essential part of why we came out to Yousif Batil camp to record music in the first place. In an early trip to the camp in 2012 Hajooj Kuka ran into Jodah outside his tent strumming on his Rababa and they started talking. Hajooj requested a song and Jodah kindly obliged, he called his friends over from the next tent and within 5 minutes a proper show was taking place with over 50 people gathered clapping and dancing and singing along. Turns out Jodah had a band he performed music with around the camp. The footage from that trip of this medley of songs is what brought me to Yousif Batil camp in 2013. And it was more than worth it. Some of the best music I had heard in a really long time. Which made me question, why didn't I hear this music all the time in Sudan? Why couldn't I find recordings easily? Why couldn't I see it on Sudanese TV?

The world of unexpected, intimate and new music.
Ethnos + chaos = the combination of two fundamental substances, create the world of music in a variety of native melodies, rythmos.
The name is original, outstanding and authentic at the same time.
DakhaBrakha means "give/take" in the old Ukrainian language.

DakhaBrakha was created in 2004 at the Kyiv Center of Contemporary Art "DAKH" by the avant-garde theatre director -- Vladyslav Troitskiy. Theatre work has left its mark on the band performances -- their shows have never been staged without the scenic effects.
Having experimented with Ukrainian folk music, the band has added rhythms of the surrounding world into their music, thus creating bright, unique and unforgettable image of DakhaBrakha.

Dakhabrakha ~ Specially For You

و نحن روح الجميع

 From ancient times, Nubian peoples have flourished in the land along the Nile River. But Egyptian projects to dam the river at Aswan have, over time, submerged the Nubian territories along the Nile under water. And with the completion of the Aswan High Dam and Lake Nasser came the inundation of the entire Nubian valley in southern Egypt. As a result, the Egyptian Nubians irrevocably lost what remained of their ancestral lands along the Nile and were forcibly relocated. The resettlement has given rise to a range of social problems, and many aspects of Nubian culture and social organization that previously existed have now changed or disappeared.

Despite efforts to survive or revive their culture, at this present point in the epic history of the Nubians, when their ancestral land is lost, and when their language is no longer the medium of either their religion or their government, music may in fact prove to be the best means for preserving something of the ethos of Nubian culture, and for adapting it to further changes in the future.
