Another sub label owned by the mighty Basement Records, Homegrown Records was launched to cater for tracks leaning towards the happier side of hardcore. Still possessing some of the darker, 'Jungle Tekno' sounds in the initial releases, the label seems to have the perfect blend of dark and light, which made Hardcore music so popular at raves in the early nineties. Undeniably, Homegrown released some of the greatest, early four-to-the-floor Happy Hardcore tracks which were big favourites with the likes of DJ's Dougal, Sy and Slipmatt. 'DJ's Unknown - Volume 1' being one of their most played records at the time. A massive anthem with highly recognisable samples, an eerie, yet uplifting piano and dreamlike strings. These characteristics continue throughout the following releases and are notable influences on most Sy & Unknown tracks due to DJ Unknown's heavy involvement in the label, taking control of the reigns in 1995. There was even an early rare breakbeat release from Scottish Bouncy Techno kings Scott Brown and Marc Smith, which frequently and unjustly goes under the radar.

Homegrown Records is a fantastic, somewhat emotional, sought-after Hardcore label. For me, it delivered.....BIG TIME!
