Australian, Brisbane-based emerging alternative pop duo Alta Falls are making their grand entrance with the release of the debut single “Take Me On Down,” an indie shout fueled by melodic hooks, soaring harmonies, and vintage synth drive. 

“We recorded this song in 2020 when it felt like the world was pulling in multiple directions all at once, and the divide was getting bigger, wider, and deeper. The song asks, 'How did we all get so sure about things, and get so stuck in our own heads that we can't even see things from someone else's perspective? What if there was a world where people saw things from the other side?'”

Combining a wide range of influences, Alta Falls takes glimpses of The Preatures’ rhythms, Spacey Jane’s guitars, The Weeknd’s synth lines, and The Wombats’ energy to put their take on modern indie. A slow build of instrumentation and shimmering vocals builds to a fiery chorus that has mastered the art of catchy.

‘Into You’ marries ominous 80s synth-pop vibes with the delectably menacing percussion that underpins the song. The vocals bring the true intention of the song to the surface – taking it from something that would fit perfectly on a 'Stranger Things' soundtrack, to a scrumptious indie-pop bop.

The song is about the coming together of two unlikely misfits. It’s describing the other-worldly feeling at the start of a relationship where your entire universe closes in and becomes only about that one person. There's a feeling of anticipation, excitement, and hope, but also a certain level of fear — maybe they don't feel the same way?

Into You

The lyrics on ‘Sun In My Eyes’ paint a sad, anti-love story, from the opening scene, where the protagonist has lost someone they love.

“Not just my lover, not somebody who slips your mind,” sings Alta Falls. “It’s burning a hole inside, it feels like the sun’s in my eyes.”

On the new single, Alta Falls says, “‘Sun In My Eyes’ is about a long distance relationship, where one of our mates had a girlfriend who left Brisbane to start a new job. They stayed together for a while, but eventually it ended when she left him for someone else. The song’s about how painful that experience was for him, and the feeling of losing your special someone forever.”

Recorded during the onset of COVID-19, the song began to have more of an “all-encompassing” feeling. As couples, friends, and families across the world found themselves separated from their loved ones, ‘Sun In My Eyes’ took on a whole new meaning.

'Rain’ tells the story of a new relationship — that time where being vulnerable and opening up about your demons and mental health struggles feels almost impossible. The perceived threat kicks in and you fear you’ll lose the relationship before it’s even started.

‘Rain’ depicts those emotions, telling the story of the fear through deep, brooding synths. Like any good story, the song ends with a euphoric crescendo fit with shimmery percussion, representing the total and unconditional acceptance of who we are.

Alta Falls reveal their straight-up electro-pop single ‘I’m At A Loss’. It’s a shimmery, upbeat track that comes in waves, peaking and crashing at just the right moments.

“The words, “I’m at a loss” came to me out of the blue while Matt was showing me a new song idea he had been playing around with,” explains lead singer, Nathanael. “The phrase intrigued me, so I reached out to our followers on Discord, and asked them what ‘I’m at a loss’ means to them. Their answers formed the inspiration for the lyrics of the song.”
