"Hello. My name is Dania and I run the Paralaxe Editions label. Outside of this, I am also an Emergency Medicine doctor and an Arab in the diaspora. Growing up, Palestine was a frequent topic of conversation in my home. What is happening now is not a new conflict. The horrific images we are currently seeing in Gaza are simply the latest manifestation of an oppressive system that dates back decades. I'm usually a private person, but as a doctor, a woman and an Arab whose whole life was uprooted by war and Western imperialism, leaving me displaced from my homeland, I feel compelled to act in the face of a situation that seems increasingly dire by the day.

Looking to make some kind of positive contribution, I've reached out to friends, colleagues and fellow artists from a variety of geographic, social and ethnic backgrounds, asking if they would donate some of their music to a fundraiser compilation.

'For Palestine' is that compilation and I hope that the breadth of the participants involved helps to underscore the severity of the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and in Palestine in general.

All proceeds will go to Médecins Sans Frontières. This charity has been chosen as the benefactor as I am not only familiar with their mission statement and field work, but many of my medical colleagues have directly worked with the organisation in different locations around the globe. MSF currently has doctors and staff on the ground in Gaza, and they are actively working to treat patients and get desperately needed supplies across the border.

On top of the music, I've also teamed up with Oficina de Disseny to create a special print. Printed at L'automatica in Barcelona as part of a collective printing effort, 600 posters were produced in total, though a majority have been (and will continue to be) distributed freely at protests in Barcelona. A small quantity, however, are on sale here. Unfortunately, they are available to EU customers only. (Some additional copies will also be available at Paralaxe Editions' showcase at Cafe Oto in London on November 7.)

Having lost his eyes, ears, nose and mouth it was apparent that he needed to do something quickly. After all he was about to go on a date with that girl he swiped right with on Tinder  (Other dating apps are available) and he was getting on with her really well,  they'd even exchanged the sort of pictures that you wouldn't show your own mother. But this was a crisis. He was meeting her in just over an hour and he looked nothing like he did in the profile picture as all his facial features had just faded into what looked like a skin coloured balloon. It's a good job that there was a shop selling replacement parts nearby.  That shop was called Local Face.
The lower sky crumbles, the upper sky growls but the Middle Sky Booms...  and it is Middle Sy Boom, calling on Moshe Abutbul and Shahar Hatch to add a smidge of organic life to this metal machine music and handing over the stems to Ghost Form.  This slowed down analogue jam is well worth your time with the Alvaro Cabana seal of approval this is up there with the best of Rotten City Records... and even if the drop in the second half does melt those pretty little facial features, don't worry, you are never too far from a Local Face.

The ninth release of katharsis is the EP “Journey Before Destination” by @jjjacob, which is the first full release of the label founder on his own label. The EP spans six tracks and is quite a deviation in sound from his earlier releases on labels such as ANBA, high heal and Sweat Taste. Taking a step away from his usual tools of heavily automated synths and complex midi-based melodies, this EP focuses closely on recordings of acoustic instruments and vocals done by jjjacob himself throughout the pandemic year.

With titles and themes of “Journey Before Destination” drawing severely on The Stormlight Archive novel-series by Brandon Sanderson, the listener is taken on a dreamy trip through medieval landscapes and emotional worldbuilding. The sounds of heroic struggles, poignant pilgrimages and mystical creatures are carried through on the six tracks of the album by its melancholic piano phrases, processed guitar stretches and manipulated vocals. However, even though the acoustic instruments seem to be a change of expression for jjjacob, the recognizable layer of weird samples, field recordings and sound effects that usually pervade his music still flow through the whole EP.
