In the summer of 2011, eclectic groove adventurers, 
Soundspecies met UK based, Moroccan Gnawa master 
musician Simo Lagnawi at a festival. After a handful 
of jam sessions and without ever having performed 
together live, they booked two days in a studio to 
document their space age gnawa experimentations. 
These are the takes from that session, which have since 
formed the backbone of their now increasingly popular live

Egyptians knew that the Sun brought life, but they also knew that the desert Sun could kill you. Lion-headed Egyptian deity Sekhmet is known as that destructive aspect of the sun. When her father Ra wanted to destroy humanity for disobeying the Gods, he turned the goddess Hathor into Sekhmet. Her horrific killing spree was stopped by the intervention of Ra, who put vats of beer mixed with pomegranate juice in her path. Mistaking it for human blood, Sekhmet consumed the drink and became intoxicated to finally give up her senseless slaughter. After the first initial flooding of the Nile river, its waters turn a reddish color from all the sediments that were stirred up. It resembles blood that the goddess swiftly drank. Egyptians utilized the Nile to adapt to the changing environment. Instead of roaming the land, they saw the opportunity it provided them through agriculture as the yearly Nile floods bring life and fertility. Just like the flooding of the river, Sekhmet tells you to learn not to disconnect from your anger but to make it your ally.

You may ask yourself where in your body you hold anger unknowingly. To check in with your body, to witness and timely connect with seeds of anger is tapping into a power resource. Healthy anger fuels us to stand up in courage against unrighteousness, or to strengthen our boundaries in fierce grace. Do not give away your anger in rage. Learn to transform it so it empowers and energizes you. Your relationship with the sun and your inner flame then turns into a respected one of admiration, reverence and devotion.

Os egípcios sabiam que o Sol trouxe vida, mas também sabiam que o Sol do deserto poderia matar. A deusa egípcia com cabeça de leão Sekhmet é conhecida como este aspecto destrutivo do sol. Quando o pai de Sekhmet, Ra, decidiu destruir a humanidade por desobedecer aos deuses, ele transformou a deusa Hathor em Sekhmet. Sua horrível matança foi interrompida pela intervenção de Rá, que colocou enormes cubas de cerveja misturadas com suco de romã em seu caminho. Altar is the union of two women, who connected in the magical mountains of Cusco, Peru. And who together - yet separated by an ocean - dance, cry and flourish. Each mixtape features music from around the world, exploring the teachings and origins of each Goddess. Each mixtape will be released during a New Moon, proposing a reflection for the next lunation.
