‘Music is like time travel’ my wife once said to me.
She’s absolutely correct - and it gave me an idea for a song ‘Radio Time Machine’
I felt it had something missing, and had ‘Beatle-esque’ chord sequence hanging round, so I added some lyrics and kind of ‘glued’ it into the middle of the song.

Radio Time Machine

Written during the first lockdown. It was obvious that no generation had ever experienced what we were all going through - so I need to write about it.
'It's not like we’d ever choose…….’
Wasn't sure where the song was going, so decided to build up the ending to EPIC proportions with 'Moog Taurus' bass pedals, Mellotron choirs, strings, brass and the kitchen sink!
Helped immensely by the very talented Mr Rob Rowles (aka ’Badger’) on piano, strings and brass sections, and the equally talented Alex Pearson who played the double bass.

Not Like

Here’s a song I wrote a few years ago now - it’s about the innocence of youth, and how becoming an adult shatters that innocence.
This was written on piano (I’m no pianist, so please excuse the basic playing!), but transposes nicely to guitar for when I play it live.

If any band defined 1984 in Weston, it was Cast the Heroes. Saturday nights at the Three Queens just wouldn't have been the same without Mark Ely and his troupe playing classics like Why and Ambition to a bunch of people with weird hair, pre-loaded on cheap cider and Liebfraumilch.

Always on the edge of something big, Cast the Heroes never quite got there. But if the world was a just place, they would have been massive.

Mark Ely continues to play with Eastertown. Christian Riou went on to great success, leading 90s goth rockers Claytown Troupe, with Andy Holt on drums.
