"Ready! Get! Go!" is brand new recordings of unreleased Shaggs songs and new classics written by Dot Wiggin and her band!

The Shaggs' "Philosophy of the World" quietly debuted 44 years ago and eventually became the crown jewel for outsider music fans because of its charming and discordant pop songs. Now, the Shaggs' singer and songwriter, Dot Wiggin is back to break the silence and share her uncommonly cute, uncanny music on her 1st ever solo album! Frank Zappa said the Shaggs were "better than the Beatles" and Kurt Cobain regarded them as "so obviously the real thing."

The Dot Wiggin Band retains some Shaggs-ish character, without missing a beat or trying to recreate what once was. The band is better at their instruments than Dot's sisters were but retain the original crude allure that made the Shaggs so special. This record varies from raw punkish indie to pretty virginal melodies.

Dot's whimsical lyrics are simple but haunting, without ever becoming formulaic or gimmicky. Her peculiar, sweet voice rolls along the different musical styles surprisingly well, tying "Ready! Get! Go!" together. It is exactly what one wants to hear after a 44 year musical hiatus - something reminiscent of the Shaggs, but refreshingly matured.

The CD & LP come with liner notes by Dot Wiggin herself as well as bandmate Jesse Krakow, along with photos, flyers, and lyrics so you can sing along around the campfire. The unforgettable front and back covers are by Jad Fair!

First, the history: Citizen Fish formed in Bath, UK in 1989 following the splits of Subhumans and Culture Shock. They have been delivering their unique ska-infused punk rock to eager audiences while touring across the world the past two decades. Dick Lucas' frantic vocal delivery combined with the catchy riffs and driving punk of their unforgettable live performances continues to earn CF legions of new fans and brings working class radical politics to generations of questioning minds. These guys truly are the masters of mixing punk with ska, and they top that off with sharply observed politically charged lyrics that don't preach, but encourage you to question, and to think!

Citizen Fish - Overseas

The first installment in a multi-album set describing The Kinnery of Lupercalia, Petr & The Wulf is the correct telling of a story about which most have been woefully misinformed. This truth is courtesy of Munly (known as both a solo artist and as the co-frontman of Slim Cessna's Auto Club) and his extremely talented backing band, The Lupercalians (which includes Daniel Grandbois of Slim Cessna's Auto Club and Tarantella).

Often described as thinkin' man's country music, Munly has a wide vocal range which, on top of the Lupercalians' dark, often sensuous string arrangements, makes for a unique, spare sound that remains long after the music stops.

As with his previous Alternative Tentacles release, Munly and the Lee Lewis Harlots, this goth-twang-country masterpiece was recorded and mixed by Bob Ferbrache (Blood Axis, Slim Cessna's Auto Club, Tarantella) at Absinthe Studios in Denver, Colorado.

The record begins with Petr, "the last of the Northrops," who tells how he will bring his people back to greatness by rescuing Grandfater from the Bedlam. The Three Wise Hunters let all know that they can be hired to rid the land of whatever menace is present. The Wulf tells of his love for the Northrops despite their continued refusal of his offerings.

Munly writes, "Hopefully you will accept the current Lupercalians offering with open heart and understanding mind."

Munly & The Lupercalians - Bird

Previously very hard to find, Hoarse contains 16 HORSEPOWER live tracks from Denver in 1998, that were first intended as a bootleg, then released briefly on Checkered Past as an official live album after the powers that be heard how good it is. The band would become a four piece, more electric, more rock at times, and the reigning masters of heavy without being heavy in the metal or punk sense of the word. Here are eight of their original favorites, plus three unique takes on songs by JOY DIVISION, CREEDENCE and GUN CLUB. It could be argued that the voice, vibe and vision of David Eugene Edwards tapped an even deeper vein than Jeffrey Lee Pierce himself. Only instead of a hellhound on his trail, David’s went straight to god. From the 1995 The Advocate interview with Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day:
"For Armstrong, who grew up with band member Dirnt in a suburb of Berkeley called Rodeo, homosexuality is neither a new subject nor one he must defend himself against. 'I think I've always been bisexual,' Armstrong says simply. 'I mean, it's something that I've always been interested in. I think everybody kind of fantasizes about the same sex. I think people are born bisexual, and it's just that our parents and society kind of veer us off into this feeling of Oh, I can't. They say it's taboo. It's ingrained in our heads that it's bad, when it's not bad at all. It's a very beautiful thing.

When asked whether this beautiful thing is something he's ever actually acted on, the recently married (and about to become a father) Armstrong smiles. 'I think mostly it's been kept in my head,' he says. 'I've never really had a relationship with another man. But it is something that comes up as a struggle in me. It especially came up when I was about 16 or 17. In high school people think you have to be so macho. People get attacked just because someone insinuates something about their sexuality. I think that's gruesome.'

Armstrong's struggle with his sexuality isn't something that has gone unnoticed by his fans. 'I've gotten letters because I wrote this song on Dookie called 'Coming Clean' about coming out,' he says with the same ease that Kurt Cobain used to show while talking about his song 'All Apologies' and the now-famous lyric from it: 'What else should I say/ Everyone is gay.'"

Pansy Division - Average Men

Legendary Canadian punk group Subhumans emerged from the 1978 font of creativity that produced DOA and The Pointed Sticks. They have been part of the Alternative Tentacles family since the infamous 1981 Let Them Eat Jellybeans compilation (VIRUS004), and played shows with Dead Kennedys, Minor Threat, Black Flag, and Bad Brains. Their first album, Incorrect Thoughts, was released on Vancouver label Friends Records in 1980. The band always planned to make their older material available again, but a now-defunct San Francisco label had issued an unauthorized version of Incorrect Thoughts in the '80s which substituted some remixes without the band's knowledge, included tracks which hadn't made the cut for the original album, and changed the cover art. It was an unpleasant mystery for the band, and three decades later the former owner of that label asserted ownership over the original album, preventing its re-release without an expensive and contentious legal tussle. The Subhumans decided to meet the challenge to their ownership of their own material by rerecording all of the songs from Incorrect Thoughts, which they proceeded to do at the Hive Studios in Vancouver, assisted by Jesse Gander.
 
Original members Brian Goble (vocals), Gerry Hannah (bass), Mike Graham (guitar), and newly-recruited drummer Jon Card (formerly with Personality Crisis, SNFU, and DOA among others) got together in 2005 to record a new album of original material, New Dark Age Parade, for Alternative Tentacles (VIRUS366) and the band had been reactivated into a live entity. The intent was neither to slavishly recreate the old recordings nor to radically reinterpret the songs, but updating the sounds and the recording techniques while maintaining the original spirit of the album. As a bonus, Subhumans recorded six additional songs from the same period (some of which have never been recorded until now), available as extra tracks on the CD and as a separate 12-inch included with the two-disc vinyl version.

16 Horsepower looms large in the Alternative Tentacles catalog, and over the entire alt-Americana musical landscape. Secret South is a cornerstone to this Denver band’s legacy, their first indie outing after departing A&M, recorded at Hamilton Glory Lodge outside Blue River, Colorado, in 2000. This album has long been out of print in America (originally released on Razor and Tie) and only available on vinyl in a very limited edition in Europe through Glitterhouse. As rural gothic goes, one cannot do much better than David Eugene Edwards and company, with their use of acoustic old-time instruments mixed with the impassioned vocals and fire-and-brimstone lyrics (excepting a cover of Dylan’s “Nobody ’Cept You”). Additional surround-sound mix of the album by producer Bob Ferbrache (Blood Axis, Soul Merchants) for this release is included on the DVD-audio format for both the 180-gram black vinyl LP and the CD.

Sixteen Horsepower - Wayfaring Stranger

In the twenty or so years since his brainchild, The Dead Kennedys, officially disbanded, Jello Biafra has made a career of spoken word gigs interspersed with musical collaborations with some of the most compelling figures in underground music. Recording projects and touring with the likes of Melvins, NoMeansNo, DOA, Mojo Nixon, and Lard (with Ministry's Al Jorgensen) among others have kept his "punk as political weapon" message sharp, but the lack of his own band made these collaborations usually short-lived and left Biafra with a ton of songs that never saw the light of day.

The Audacity of Hype was produced by Biafra and engineered by hip hop producer and longtime co-conspirator Matt Kelley (Hieroglyphics, The Coup, Digital Underground, Victims Family, Tumor Circus) at Prairie Sun Recording in Cotati, CA, and San Francisco's Hyde Street Studios. The band's twin guitar attack retains some of the space-punk overtones and spy-music-on-meth chaos of The Dead Kennedys while adding a healthy dose of Detroit-style proto-punk flavored with Weiss' industrial excursions into metal percussion.
 
Topically, the album explores how the forced Iraqnophobia and Homeland Insecurity continues to feed lawlessness at the top ("The Terror of Tiny Town") vs. a runaway police state and class war toward the bottom ("Three Strikes" and "Electronic Plantation," originally done by The No WTO Combo, Biafra's one-off collaboration with Krist Novelselic and Kim Thayil). "Clean as a Thistle" becomes more timely every day as "family values" blowhards from Sanford to Berlusconi are caught in sinful trysts, while album closer "I Won't Give Up" offers an Age of Obama anthem on how change comes from agitation from below, not from glamour and sound bites from the top.

Jello Biafra and the Guantanamo School of Medicine - Clean As A Thistle

NAUSEA is one of the most influential New York City punk bands ever. Among the first bands to combine raw punk, metal and intense socio-political lyrics, creating a style often imitated but rarely equaled. Dual female/male vocalists trade off over a ferocious musical backdrop that found its way into the sound of bands like NEUROSIS, LOGICAL NONSENSE and ANTISCHISM, to bands of today like KYLESA, SKARP and LEFTOVER CRACK. “The Punk Terrorist Anthology Vol. II 1986-1988” collects 30 NAUSEA tracks including several live, unreleased and demo tracks and classic songs like ‘Smash Racism’, ‘Clutches’ (recently covered by KYLESA) and ‘Godless’, which are as relevant today as when they were recorded nearly two decades ago. This is the first of several Black Noise Records releases to be released in cooperation with Alternative Tentacles.

Full-length #2 picks up where the Shock-u-py! EP left off! Covered in gruesome detail this time are corruption ("The Brown Lipstick Parade", "Werewolves of Wall Street," "Road Rage,") and corporate McMedia making pop stars out of small-time crooks to shield the big ones ("John Dillinger") or tabloid pop stars to lobotomize everyone else ("Hollywood Goof Disease"). The title track shines a light on our never-ending foreign-policy disasters in ways even Jello's spoken word albums never did. "Crapture" is the perfect song to play for those lovely "End Times" believers, pointing out how much better the world will be when they leave and we're "Left Behind"- with melodies on the scale Biafra hasn't really touched since "Moon Over Marin."

Above all, this rocks! No pop-punk here. Just Jello and crew taking punk fire in a wide variety of directions few ever try, with wall-of-sound, in-your-face production from Marshall Lawless and Matt Kelley (lots of Jello projects, Hieroglyphics, The Coup, Digital Underground, Zen Guerrilla, Victims Family). Lineup retains the double-barreled guitar attack of Ralph Spight (Victims Family, Freak Accident) and Kimo Ball (Freak Accident, Griddle, Mol Triffid). They are joined this time by bassist Andrew Weiss (Rollins Band, Ween, Butthole Surfers, more) and drummer Paul Della Pelle (Helios Creed, Nik Turner's Space Ritual, and Philly HC legends Ruin).
