Light swims through the valleys;
a union of void and life
a fading sun of majesty
a warm death; beauty

Crimson Desert, much like Underworld, has come out of a vivid musical expression of imagery. Inspired by the surrealist/fantasy aesthetics of a desert world (in fact, loosely based off the aesthetics of Frank Herbert's Dune), Crimson Desert brings downtempo electronica conventions to a spacious, desolate soundscape of windy, gritty textures, soft, scintillating, yet tense and simmering synths, and organically evolving percussion grooves. Caught between the scattered spectrum of a red sunset and the endless void of shade, the piece evokes a journey through the endless sea of red sand.

Dreams of Epsom

'aiueo' is a groovy, wavy house track I produced in a couple of days, originally built from a small project file I had made like 2 months earlier.

In that file I was just playing around with some musical techniques that some of my favourite artists often use (e.g. barberpole phasing - creating the 'wavy' sound), but after leaving and coming back to this project, I decided to throw down a house beat to see how it would sound, and it just kinda went from there.

'Lily Flower' is an ambient orchestral work I composed in mid-late 2019.
Inspiration for this work came from a culmination of the spring weather, pond field recordings I found online, and the beautifully recorded instruments of the Spitfire Labs instrument plug-in that I had recently just installed at the time - it all just fell in place for me. 
I gotta say, it's amazing how you can be inspired by seemingly unrelated things...

'Small Talk' is a jam packed lo-fi-glitch-EDM groove that I had way too much fun with haha, and I'm pretty happy with the result... it sure is different from my usual ambient/long-structured stuff.

Small Talk

'Value' was greatly influenced by the works of Tom Day, featuring atmospheric orchestral textures and field recordings set against organic and lively acoustic drum loops. I took my own twist on this style through a heavier use of synths/electronic instruments and effects (particularly in processing the field recording I used).

This work was also just a personal reflection on the sublimity of daily life - a musical remark on small things and comforts of our modern world that often go unnoticed or are taken for granted.

'Memories' is a soundscape composition I composed as my final major project for my CMPO101 composition course at the New Zealand School of Music in 2019. Stemming from the idea of nostalgia and remembering one's own childhood, I aimed to create a fragmented world of sonic 'memories' - sound objects and audio fragments of family footage from my own childhood, processed in various different ways to create an expansive, atmospheric texture.

These were juxtaposed against raw, unprocessed audio of me moving and handling furniture, objects, books etc to try and capture the idea of remembrance - looking at objects and things from one's own past that carry these memories.

Through this work, I hope that you are able to reminisce over nostalgic memories from your own childhood/past, or at least find something special and personal to reflect on.
