Hairdressing is a show focused on cutting deep into particular musical strands. The sixth edition of the show attempts to find sense in the murky world of Dean Blunt's music. A prolific artist, who has worked under various different guises, knowing where to begin with Blunt's output can be rather daunting. Blunt himself is an enigmatic figure, whose entire output can at times feel like an absurdist prank played on his audience. Nevertheless, some of the music he has released is phenomenal, interpreting influences of dub, folk, and hip-hop with a post-punk sensibility.

For the twenty-first edition of Hairdressing, the show returns from a long hiatus for a retrospective to the first decade of Australian label Efficient Space. The Melbourne based label - founded by Michael Kucyk - started as a reissue label, but has expanded to releasing original music as well. The label focuses on casting light on relatively unknown artists, especially from overlooked Australian DIY scenes. Alongside this, Efficient Space has entrusted digging royalty such as DJ Sundae, Steele Bonus, and Time Is Away to curate some of the most groundbreaking long form compilations of recent times. This show is an ode to the breadth of killer music the label has platformed over its 10 year run.
