Oliver Dollar debuts on Rekids with disco-fuelled three tracker, ‘Strings for Life’ EP. 

Initially appearing on Rekids as a remixer in 2012, Berlin-based Oliver Dollar returns to Radio Slave’s imprint with the Spring-time funk of his ‘Strings for Life’ EP this April. 

The rich, stiring strings of the title track open ‘Strings for Life’ with real soul. Warm, euphoric and built atop a rocksteady discoid groove, it’s a track that’s familiar, new and classic all at the same time. ‘School Daze’ follows with rhythmic shakers, funk-infused chopped guitar and bass licks while nifty vocal samples and cosseting chords provide the hooks. Closing out is ‘Sophisticated Funk’ which sees Dollar double down on the disco with an epic, emotive beatdown. 

With releases from Radio Slave, Eddie Fowlkes, Cromby, Dave Angel, Star B and Alinka on Rekids in recent months, Matt Edward’s imprint is as fresh as ever and Oliver Dollar’s ‘Strings of Life’ EP joins the catalog in fine style.

As a producer and DJ with almost 30 years releasing records, he shows absolutely no sign of slowing down, and with the label heading towards it’s 25th year Jamie Odell still seems as hungry as ever to continue pushing himself and the label eagerly into the new decade.Joining Jimpster on the title track One is NYC native Casamena. The producer, DJ, vocalist and label boss (he launched Ocha alongside Osunlade and has remixes and releasing gracing the likes of Vega, Yoruba and Strictly Rhythm) delivers some fresh hip-house vibes inspired by house-dance slams, b-boy battles and Body & Soul sessions. Jimpster’s production makes the perfect pairing, melding layers of deep pads and punchy 707 percussion, his deft musical touch ensuring the end result is warm, soulful and uplifting.On remix duties we have none other than the man of the moment, legendary producer whose credentials includes names like Slum Village, Mahogany, Sound Signature, J Dilla and Dwele to name just a few; Detroit’s own Waajeed. John Andersson aka Zoo Brazil is a living legend in the game - a Swedish multi platinum Grammy-nominated record producer, songwriter and DJ residing in Stockholm. His discography of releases from over 20 years showcases a work ethic unparalleled by most modern producers, with gems found all over his writing and production credits and more than a few bangers! Anyone that loves Rüfüs should get around his song “Hearts a Legend” from 10 years ago - one of my year's favourite underrated TUNES for sure. Amazingly we’ve been pals since the mid 2000’s after meeting in a club in Melbourne, bonding through a mutual vibe of analogue recording techniques, synths and drum machines, and have wanted to work together on a project for equally as long. So it was especially cool when John presented us a bunch of music specifically made for clipp.art! Though the intention was to take Ibiza by storm this year with this collection of tracks that bump between the tougher spectrum of house, french touch, and opus’s for the Burning Man amulet wearing glitterati, after COVID struck we decided to break these tunes down to a series of double AA side thumpers, starting here with “Outputs / Lions”. The first of the duo “Outputs” delivers all the goodness of heady evenings, ecstasy soaked brains and dancefloors, dust pouring out of your boots the following morning, etcetera. The whistle lead a lighthouse beacon moving you over wave upon wave of pure dance emotion. You are correct - this is E music, people. On the flip, “Lions” glides into view like the mirage of Lee Foss riding a segway on the playa at 7am, bee’s pouring out of his mouth Candyman style.. Wait, was today "take Acid day", or no? Too late. The propulsive grid of beats and bassline has you and is stretching you multiple directions like paint all over the art car. The siren song of good times.
