The Cold June EP lands after what seemed like a three-year hiatus. The truth is the band have been hard at work since their debut album Breathing Geometry. The EP marks a great leap forward in terms of variety of styles or instrumental precision, and bears as much emotion. From the ice-cold, overpowering title song Cold June accompanied by fingers gliding over double-bass strings, rhodes piano and intimate saxophone playing, through the single Close with playful acoustic guitar and decently accentuating wind section, to the energetic On Air On Skin which blends breakbeat rhythms with jazz elements and click’n’cuts sound artifacts, and finally Trent Beat and its beautiful intro trumpet part. All tracks are forged by the unmistakable vocal courtesy of Anya Stuart. The EP is closed off with three quality remixes of the single Close by CloseEncouter, Prince of Tennis and Ishfaq. Carefully building on the original, the remixes create new varied paradigms – the Close Encounter remix uses a string section part that would fit on any film soundtrack; Prince of Tennis goes for the trip hop sound with the playful filtering and sound reversing; finally the Ishfaq remix is nod towards the breakbeat sound.
