Morning light, bags packed in tight
Maya's in the backseat, kicking both her little feet
Captain Snack she dubs herself
Lord of all the treats

She adds a tax to all the yums
Demands that mummy sings
Jess obliges gleefully
Way out of the key

Captain snack first giggles
Then joins in with the song
The two of them are laughing now
(Losing any sense of time)
As their journey hums along


Maya's in the back seat
Jess behind the wheel

Maya and mum
Driving down the highway
Cranking up the stereo
the journey has begun


Jess has plans for new year's eve
It's tanglewood or bust
Thats the place she first met me
Dancing in the dust

But this year ends with a special treat
Cos maya's by her side
And tanglewood's the first time she
discovers festival life

Magic ear protectors, 
rainbow jumpsuit on her tum
It might be fourty three degrees
But they're both having fun

Its new years eve
Despite all the people round them
Its like they're the only ones

This great big little road trip, 
which they've paused to have a dance
And dance they do
The whole night through
Until the sun is rising fast


Twenty twenty-six has come along
The girls are both just spent
They wake up late inside their tent
And Jess, exhausted, briefly wonders
If they should just lie there all day.

But the road is calling to them
Beckoning them forth
There's so much new to see and do
And they HAVE to do it all

Maya says she smells the beach
Though its still 5 hours hence
Jess just laughs and plays along
Her love for her little girl


Once again our little star
Transforms into her magic pet
A sausage dog called Sarah-Luna 

Great big little road trip
And Jess pauses to reflect
She thinks it might be possible
This is the happiest she's been yet

As sarah-luna plants her paws
upOn the window sill
she's got her head out in the breeze
To sniff at all the smells


Change can be so hard to bear
Jess ponders as she rounds a bend
For change is what she knows they'll find
When their journey finally ends

She thought of all the tears, recently shed,
as she'd Packed their toys and books and things
moving out the little house
where maya had been born

She took her first steps on that floor
And uttered her first words
It was painful too
To bid adieu
To Maya's other mum

Its not that she won't be around
They're not moving far away....
It's then that jess has a big new thought....
For a chapter to begin....
The old one has to end....
