Things move fast. Sometimes I notice that I have been holding my spiritual "breath" while chasing* the things that are right in front of me that I "need" to get done. I'm... probably not the only one. Something will always trigger me to pause... look around.. and exhale... to begin afresh with a slightly altered outlook. This set is a musical "exhale" for me, as I move through and past a period relative stagnancy. The journey continues. 

I've been on a short hiatus, but I'll see you on a couple of great dancefloors in the next few weeks as I re-join both Gravity (Montgomery, AL) and ProjectB. (Atlanta, GA) with a renewed energy.

Culmination 015 - An Exhale

As heard on June 26th, 2021 in the woods of rural Georgia at a brand new Festival called Rebirth. A massively collaborative event, this festival brought together heads from two distinct underground groups from the Atlanta area. Underground Experimental Bass reigned on one stage while Techno and House thumped away on the other. I played on the Main Stage Saturday afternoon alongside Techno greats like Drumcell, Carlo Lio, and Truncate on a massive PK Soundsystem. Thanks to all the hard working staff that made this happen and the brave dance floor heroes who ventured into the woods with us for a pioneering festival at a brand new venue.

Hulaween Renegade Silent Disco by the Gravity Team

This is music that speaks to me as an artist and a human at a personal and spiritual level. This is not necessarily for casual listening, but instead for searching, healing, and recovering. Build a fire or take a walk with your headphones. Remove some distractions. Meditate. Whatever brings stillness to your day.

In May of 2020, my grandfather took his last breaths in his human body. My first real, personal, intimate experience with loss. I have been sheltered from death for most of my life, and even in his passing, I was spared many of the challenges many experience when losing a loved one. I had known it was coming for a long time, as he had been fighting cancer and a litany of related health issues. I got to visit with him a week before he passed to tell him I love him and talk about better days. He passed peacefully with those he loves most standing by his side, including me and my wife, mother, and grandmother. He was a devout man of faith and believed that his mansion of peace and love was being prepared for him in the afterlife. I believe he was right. It was as ideal a passing as you can hope for someone you love, and yet, I still couldn’t get past the grief. I should have been happy I was there, happy I got to say goodbye, and thankful for all our good times. I thought I would feel relief when he passed from this life to the next. But grief is never that simple. It took me quite some time to find my footing again, emotionally. I learned that we cannot measure our own pain against those who “have had it worse.” We must practice self love and self care, finding a consistent method of coping and recovering that creates positive potential for ourselves and our loved ones. 

For me, music has always played a healing role in my life. It can be an escape, but it can also be a guiding presence in the here and now. I believe that our Creator Spirit - God, if you choose to use that label- is in the music and uses it as a tool to heal and guide us. The music that has been by my side throughout my darkest times inspired this mixtape series. This will be a place of exploration of sounds outside the normal “dance music” ecosystem. Influences from many genres and many stages of my life will make an appearance here over time as I find my footing with the experimentation.

Your struggles are your own in many ways, but that does not mean that you have to shoulder them on your own. If you are grieving or if you are just sad, know that there are many out here who relate to what you are going through, including me. There is power in verbalizing your pain. Talk to someone. Take a chance and reach out to someone who might listen, including me. You might be surprised at the compassion and guidance you receive. You are valued, you matter. Your struggles are not in vain. I love you all. Stay alive.

Sad But True Mixtapes: Episode 001

Today is January 1st, 2021 and we welcome a new year with open arms in the wake of one of the most devastating and disappointing years in modern history.  We have seen the best and worst of humanity as we have sought to overcome a pandemic and once and for all embrace a movement for social justice. I hope that your year has brought growth and stillness, although i know many have instead experienced loss and chaos. For those of you in the latter category, 
my prayer for you in the new year is that the cosmos speaks to you in precisely the way you need to spark growth and fulfillment. 

The music and club scene in particular has experienced many losses, the depth of whose impact we may never be able to measure. We have lost spaces that are essential to self expression and the building of community. My hope is that in their wake, new movements, new projects, and new leaders will rise up and help to rejuvenate our community. I believe we are already beginning to see that happen now. Don't try to change my mind, because I am lost to the notion that we will all be better for the pain and struggle we have endured. 2021 may not immediately bring instant healing, but we are on our way. Stay positive, stay alive, and look for ways to contribute to your community. Together, we will come back stronger than ever.

Culmination 012 - A Cosmic Whisper

Hello lovers! This set is a near replica of a set I played for ProjectB. on NYE2021. If you were there, you know that place was on fire all night. What an experience. Crank up the volume and enjoy this time capsule!

Synergy. Occasionally, the fated paths of individuals - and butterfly effects of cosmic and earthly occurrences on those paths - culminate in the alignment of people who are meant to be together. I have watched with bewilderment as this has happened again and again throughout my life with various people who I know were meant to impact me in ways that caused me to grow for the benefit of others. For this I am eternally grateful and humbled. In 2017, I began meeting people in the ProjectB. family, and my life was forever altered for the better. I have been inspired by the consistent kindness and openness of the people I meet, the synergies with my own home team, the vision of the leadership,  and the consistent quality of the music they have curated from powerful local creatives to international superstars like Yokoo, Adisyn, Davi, Sebastian Mullaert, Jon Charnis, Mattias Meyer, Matthew Dekay, Patrice Baumel, and the list goes on and on. This week, I was announced as the newest resident DJ of ProjectB. The potential energy awakened in me by this partnership is immense. I am resolute in my mission to contribute. Undoubtedly, I will benefit personally in ways I may never be able to measure, but when we begin any relationship with the intention to serve and support, the potential is truly boundless. Synergy. This Saturday begins the journey as I take the decks at a new location with a crowd of some of the best people I know on the dance floor. Couldn't ask for more.

Culmination 013 - A Synergy

Perhaps the idea of love has been commodified. Countless love stories have been told, many of them virtually the same. Girl meets boy, falls in love, has heart broken. Boy meets girl, can't commit, regrets losing her. But in reality, each relationship, each experience of love is dramatically unique. When you consider an individual's immense inner complexities and potential outcomes in this life, then interlace all of that with another's, the potential outcomes are multiplied into a fractalized universe of possibilities. Yet... we humans share so many ecstatic joys and devastating pains from love... across generations, continents, and cultures. Herein lies a key dichotomy of the human condition. We are infinitely unique yet inextricably connected with all of humanity. Let's practice love and empathy at the internal level (forgive ourselves), the romantic level (serve our partners), and the global level (treat others with love and forgiveness always). I believe this is the way to rebuild our world.
