Following a digital art renaissance, deconstructed-club tape on Lobster Theremin earlier in the year, and following their debut Berghain performance and Rinse FM Culture vs Reality residency, Overthinker Mob founder Bloomfeld readies six cuts of heavy-duty science techno and grime-laced fuck-step on Breaks N Pieces.

Whilst the Berlin based producers full length dealt with themes of live-action roleplay and anti-ego aesthetics, Probe Report 1 keeps its aim firmly fixated on the club experience. ‘Countdown Now’ is a mutated sequence of broken UK techno; wobbling, bleeping and wubbing its way through off-kilter percussion, icey synths and brooding bass. ‘U Damaged’ makes use of half-time percussive patterns and distorted bass on something that sits between dubstep and North African techno.

‘Window Matrix’ sounds not unlike the sounds emerging from Woozy Soundsystem in Dublin – again striking a delicate balance between 140BPM sound and future-facing techno – before we enter 140 territory entirely with a frightening soundboy grime-dub hybrid.

‘Phonk Off’ brings the tempo down a notch but maintains the high levels of energy thanks to its Pulse X-esque bass stabs and Walton-like textures, before the experimental music-box grime rhythms of ‘Glockk’ brings Bloomfeld’s melting and distinct experience to a close.

Manchester’s Mercy System debuts on Of Paradise with Procedures, a unique, intricate, boundary-blurring excursion through the heart of UK bass, dubstep, and garage. Comprised of four thought-provoking and immersive compositions, Procedures feels almost monolithic in its sound, evoking vivid images of space, rugged landscapes, and dimly lit venues.

SPF 50’s Social Life EP, released in March 2023, offered refined peak sounds and atmospheric club tools that defied typical genre descriptors, and cemented him as one of the most exciting DJs and producers in New York. 

Further exploring the world conjured in Social Life, SPF 50 has invited three artists he admires greatly - Sam Goku, Davis Galvin, and James Bangura - to reimagine the EP. 

The results are stellar. Sam Goku delivers an ambient techno version of “Grove Map” with a rude acid line, Davis Galvin transforms “Body Concept” into a sub-heavy system lifter as only they can, James Bangura digs up a moody deep house groove in “Liquid USB”, and SPF 50 himself rounds out the offering with “Blind Fade”, a reworked track from the Social Life sessions replete with the deep atmosphere and understated moments he has become known for.

London-based duo D3U5E & Gav shatter the mould and incinerate the pieces with Origin Unknown, an otherworldly collection of hydro-dipped bass music and heat-treated breaks that occasionally ventures into experimental techno territory. 

Fully loaded with four bassbin bothering cuts, Origin Unknown is arguably the duo’s most accomplished work. It’s a midnight tour through each of London’s 32 boroughs, a glistening and explorative journey through thought-provoking and disruptive dance music, and an extended player that cuts razor-sharp through the noise.
