Helios Erebus

The original guitar riff for Introvert was inspired by Alex G, but after recording I wasn't happy with it at all. I wasn't sure what to do but I happened to be going to a concert around this time. I went and saw Slowdive and the opening band Whitelands, and then on the way back I knew I had to turn it into Shoegaze.

The acoustic guitar used was the fender CD-60 which was my first acoustic i bought. The action on the guitar was really high and this song is full of barre chords, Definitely the most painful song to record but I didn't have an alternative at the time.

The song uses lots of layers especially in the distorted sections but the most important one has to be the only guitar on the album that uses the Big Muff. I had heard Slowdive use this technique before and decided to try it aswell. Using a high gain fuzzy sound I tremolo picked the high notes on my guitar to make this continuous noise. On it's own it sounds horrible and was hard to mix but in context of the song it sounds great especially right at the end of the song 2:42 going into the final section.

All the drum sounds were sampled from my own kit played in a loop.

I think Introvert is my personal favourite song i've ever made. It turned out really well considering It was the first time I had tried to mix anything that had as many distorted layers as it did. I think it's the perfect way to end the album.
