Alysa brings together her work as a performance artist with a background in mental health to illuminate what is hidden in her heart and mind. Both fears and truths emerged through the process of creating Beautiful Broken Piece. Alysa grew up loving musicals so it is no surprise that when she went to create a one woman show without music it grew to have a small cast of characters and become a musical theater piece instead. She has an interest in digging deep into the bedrock of her social-emotional world to understand herself in the context of our late-stage capitalist society.We are all affected negatively in different ways by these societal forces. Those who identify as artists often find themselves viewed as naive at best, selfish at worst. Alysa endeavors to explore the messaging that exists in her mind around respecting and connecting with her inner-child/child artist self. When did she pick up these messages of fear and struggle and what did it take to come back to herself? This album and musical is a story of redemption for The Little One. For every person who believed they were not enough and that the broken parts were insurmountable, this music is meant to acknowledge the challenges and find connection in the recognition of self. Negative thoughts and feelings exist AND it’s possible to find reconciliation and repair our relationship with ourselves. Alysa says she “continues to uncover and find love for all the beautiful broken pieces.”
